Good morning, I am looking for wide flat pedal shoes. I have tried searching the web, and have not found a lot out there. So looking to see if any other vital folks have the same issue.

For reference, I comfortably wear Shimano ME-7 in 43 WIDE. These seem to fit like a glove. I have a pair of Bontrager flats that do not pinch to badly, but a long day has my feet screaming like children at a playground to get out.

Before posting I ran searches for “wide foot” and “wide shoe”.

Cheers!

510s have a relatively short toe box at least compared to some other brands.  Depending on if you are like me and have a large foot and short toes they fit better than other most shoes I’ve tried.  The 2f0s and giros I can fit in feel like clown shoes by comparison.

510s are not very wide, at least not the Freerider Pro. Out of all the shoes I currently have running (a bunch!), the widest would seem to be my well-worn pair of Specialized 2FO Roost (not the DH, they are quite tight in comparison). By virtue of a relatively soft upper, there is quite a lot of room to play with in the new Ride Concepts Tallac as well. I've also just started testing a new shoe from Leatt (https://leatt.com/int/product/shoe-3-0-flat-pro-v2023?selected-color=7257), it's quite roomy too. This one also has an updated sole with more grip (previous Leatt shoes let us down in that department). FYI and FWIW...

I don't have a very wide foot and found 510's narrow, I have Ride Concepts now that are much more comfortable.

Thank you for the info. Do you usually wear a wide shoe as well?

Will try on some Tallacs next time I get to a place that has them. Also going to look into the Leatts. how are you finding the support in these two as well? Getting over some Plantar Fascitis(sp).

I tried on a pair of Ride Concepts Wildcats last night, but definitely felt the outside of the foot was being pinched.

Thank you everyone else as well. Good idea to let this keep going for us wide footed riders? I would love more input as well.

I have quite a narrow foot, so the answer is no. The Wildcat is a pretty stiff shoe that will go well on a narrow foot, so your experience makes sense there. Not surprised. As for the support question, there’s more in the Tallac than the Leatt in this case…

Give the Vans BMX Shoes a try...by far the best bike shoes I have owned in a while and I have tried 5.10s, Giro and Afton..the Vans Shoes have lasted longer too. For reference my pedals were the Burgtec MK5s and currently the Alu Oneups..the plus is, when the Vans get worn out, they double up as casual kicks...

Specialized 2fo's fit my wide feet very well.

Canvas or synthetic upper?

had a pair of 2FO roost clips that did some pinching up in the toe box.

thank you

Shoe hunt update:

Tried Ride Concepts first. The padding had me hoping it would work. Super easy ordering and returns, also very communicative via email. Tried the Powerlines in 9 and 9.5. Going bigger has led to foot issues for me before. ***If their shoes fit you, they seem like a very solid investment and shoe. When they make a wider shoe, I will definitely purchase a pair.

Ordering som Leatt’s now. So far customer service has been really good with sending measurements of the shoe after sending photographs of my feet on a ruler. Going with the laced up version of the 3.0 as the retention system is a little intimidating if it breaks where we have no quick support. Will update soon.

5.10 Impact - the old style or the Sam Hill version worked well for me.

Just getting on the Adidas website it looks like they don't even sell the Sam Hill model anymore and now the MTB world will fall off its axis never to return to what it once was. Fuck adidas anyways.

The Leatt shoes arrived.  I ordered the 3.0 flat. I was very tempted by the boa type system, but know that I sometimes can be a monster on things on my feet.

The first round I ordered them in size 43 as Leatt had the same sizing on their chat as Shimano. Upon receipt, the outside edge was a little too snug, and I feared that even after using the shoes they would not stretch appropriately. So a trip to the local post office and paying for shipping(The folks at Ride Concepts were kind enough to cover this on all occasions including the return), I ordered one size up the 44.

When the shoes arrived I tried them on and felt as though these may be the ones. A few different pairs of socks later to be sure (thicker wool for winter and a trusty pair of Vital gear box(rip) merino wools that are thin) I felt the shoe was good. There is a little more space in the toes than I would normally care for, but the fit is good and the sole is well designed with good grip.

The sole sticks to the pedals pretty well. It is a bit easier to get better foot placement on the pedals than the Bontrager flatlines I have had. They are comfortable to walk in, and protect my feel upon impact and rock smashing. The toe cap does its job well to protect from toe strikes(riding a Stumpy EVO). After the first ride confidence was built within the shoe and they received a Permethrin treatment.

If you to are of the wide foot sort, I recommend ordering up one Euro size for a better fit in the Leatt line. I am considering ordering a pair of the 1.0 for casual wear as well, however trying to find a pair of Van checkerboards in wide foot is still a dream.

Hello! Any opinion on the shoes after a few months of riding them? I also have wide feet (25 cm by 10.8 cm) and so far I have not found a shoe that is wide enough. I wear size 40, but I order mtb shoes 41, which are too tight for me. I think I'll need a 42 number.

I have been wearing the Leatts now for the rain season here. They have been very comfortable, albeit a tad heavy.
I went with the 3.0 Flat https://leatt.com/us/product/shoe-3-0-flat-23?selected-color=titanium

wish I would have done the 3.0 Flat Pro. If you have the money, I think it would be a worthy investment.

On a side note, for casualish riding the Bontrager flatlines have treated me pretty fairly.

I still have yet to try on the new Specialized shoes that everyone loves. The clip pair that I had were nice but definitely pinched after a bit.

good luck!

I can tell you that the 5.10 Freerider are wider than the Crankbrothers Stamp. And just for reference the Crankbrothers Mallet (clipless) are marginally wider than the Stamp.

Created an account to come here and add my findings having based my purchase off this thread.

I was heading down to Oaxaca for a MTB vacation and didnt have time to trial extensively first so ended up buying two pairs of shoes on steep discounts for less than $100 combined.  I got a pair of Specialized 2FO's and Leatt 3.0's both half a size larger than i would buy for regular shoes, US 11 in place US10.5.

Out of the box the Specialized 2FO felt tight and uncomfortable where as the Leatt's felt perfect on my wide foot.  I loved the high cuff on the inside of the Leatts and how it protected my ankle.  However after a bit of riding i came to MASSIVELY prefer the Specialized.  The Leatts started to feel like boats whereas the Specialized began to fit like a glove. The Specialized rubber gives a super locked in feeling (at times almost intimidatingly so on Mexico's steep rough trails!), FAR better than the Freeride Pros stealth rubber i was riding before.

Nail in the coffin for the Leatts was that after just a couple of rides the rubber rand of the sole completely seperated from the uppers on both shoes - not sure if this was just a manufacturing defect on the model/batch i had but i have started a warrenty return.

I bought the green 2FO's for under $50 and would HIGHLY reccomend them to all the other wide footers out there!

Yikes. Sorry your Leatts gave that problem. Mine are still going strong. May try the 2FOs for next purchase.

thank you for sharing your findings.

@HROMT Can I ask which 2f0's you purchased specifically? I'm seeing about four different versions.

Update: bought a pair of Fox BOA clips, and have been enjoying them. I also purchased a pair of shoe stretchers, and that helped quite a bit as well. Using the stretchers is just a patience game as things stretch.

My kid has trouble with getting shoes to fit, we usually size up to give him a bit more room, I bought him some ride concepts in a us12 (usually wears a 13) and he is stoked with them.

It's worth noting which kind of wide feet you have.  There's the normal wide, where the forefoot / ball of foot is wider than average.  Then there's flat feet wide, where the middle of the foot (opposite of arch) is actually wider than the forefoot, due to the collapsed arch.

Being from camp 2 (flat feet), I've tried most flat pedal shoes out there that get halfway decent reviews for grip, and would say that Impact Pros, Ride Concepts Tallac, and Shimano GF6 are pretty comfortable.  Besides getting the right shoe volume, having a good amount of cushion in the midsole is key for dissipating bumps.  (Like Freerider Pros fit well, but I get foot fatigue with those that I don't get with Impact Pros.)  Of those 3 I mentioned, I find the Impact Pro is true to size against a normal running shoe, the Tallac is 1/2 size short (toes hit the end), and GF6 EU size matches the Impact Pro size but runs a little longer.
