LOL normal! There are plenty of people who ride with their front brakes on the right...UK, Australia...and plenty of people with moto backgrounds too. There is no "right or wrong" here (although as a fellow "moto-style" rider, I think the front brake on the right is just....right! haha). Run your brakes the way you like 'em!
I’ve never tried moto / euro style…I bet it’s easier to switch than it seems. Yes? No? Who among you has ridden opposite your learned style and what happened?
And wom: hate to say this but you’re never going to be normal.
I've switched. I bought a bike with the Euro/moto-style setup from a friend and rode it like that for a while. It was easy because I have a moto background. But after a while, I switched back to a more traditional "American bike" style and I like that better.
I can switch back and forth between my motorcycle and my bicycle without even a tiny moment of uncertainty. I'm not sure why; it just works.
I don’t understand why people call it euro style. It’s a British (SA, Aussie, NZ too) and Moto thing. Basically the same countries that drive on the wrong (left) side of the road
all euro countries, no?
Nope. At least here in Scandinavia we run the same as US / Canada. I’m sure some moto dudes run moto style though. Complete bikes sold in Europe (except the UK) comes front brake left, rear brake right
I swapped to match dirt bikes a long time ago then eventually had to swap back when I started working in the bike industry and needed to be able to jump on another bike at anytime…
was much harder going to moto style than coming back to regular bike imo. Either way I remember going on rides and focusing on skidding a lot. Burn that back brake into your mind.
spare us your american ignoramus
I was taught a while ago that it's scooter style, not moto style, since you're not braking with your foot like a moto - although maybe that's different with E-motos that don't have a clutch? Either way, I don't have any issue swapping back and forth between the 2. The first corner or chute can feel a little weird, but it just becomes second nature after that. I'd say just send it if you want to swap.
If you want to know the logic behind it.. its because if you drive on the left (the correct way
) and you're indicating to turn right its safer to grab the back brake to control your speed than the front when crossing oncoming traffic. Similarly when driving on the right you want to rear brake with the right hand so you can indicate left..
hey what's a hawaiin bird got to do with it?
few years back I was at the bike park, got talking to a Brazilian bloke, he had a nice Scott Gambler and I had a demo 8 at the time, out of curiosity we swapped bikes for a lap.
The brakes never crossed my mind at all, I dropped in, first corner I absolutely fold myself..... turns out Brazil run their brakes wrong way around lol. That little skid into the first corner made me to a stoppie into a berm.
I ride moto/enduro and street motorcycles, never had an issue switching back and forth from motorcycle to bicycle. Just hop on and ride, don't think about it too much or you'll muck it up.
