Quality of Commencal kids bikes

I’m interested in opinions on Commencal kids bikes, trying to understand if I’ve been unlucky or if there’s a theme. I’ve bought a Ramones 12 balance bike where the rear disc brake rotor adapter was machined horribly resulting in a warped rotor when tightened, and a Ramones 14 which was ridiculously heavy. I’ve got a friend that bought a Ramones 20 last Christmas where the front dropout nut fell out (yeah you should check your own bike’s torque but you’d also expect it to be set correctly in the factory) and the freewheel has started spinning in both directions.

I like the look of the Clash 20 or 24 for my kids next bike but I’m dubious they actually build these things with any care.

we have both the 12 and 14 ramones for our 5 year old son, the 14 certainly is heavy, but he rides circles around his neighbourhood friends on their misfitting bmx-ish bikes. the single gear is probably the bigger limitation on trails with roots and little hills where they need power to keep the cranks turning.

I bought a commencal 16 for my son and a Trailcraft for my daughter.  The Trailcraft is a far superior bike.

The commencal 20 inch full suspension bike is around 28 pounds, I didn't want to put a human half my size on the same weight bike i am pedaling around.

The fork caliper tabs on my kids Ramone are off enough that theres no way to get rid of pad rub. They're pretty far off. If it wasn't super discounted I'd be more bothered. Otherwise solid bike. I did add riser bars, maybe 40mm if I recall. His position with the flat bars wasn't confidence inspiring.

We started with the 12" balance bike when my son was 2 and that taught him how to ride at a very young age. We then got him on the 14" Ramones pedal bike and that too was a great bike. When we jumped him up to the 20" is where I started to notice quality issues. For example, I can not for the life of me get the wheels to spin without the rotors rubbing. I've even put brand new rotors on and they still seem to wobble to the point the rear wheel just has constant brake drag. All in all the 12 and 14's were great for their intended uses, but the 20" just seems like a lower quality spec, but at the same time I got such good deals on all the kids bikes through Commencal I'm not even mad about it.

Is that the 20” Ramones you are talking about?

Have a 12inch balance and a 14 and 16” Ramones.
have had no issues with any of them. They’re a tad heavy, but that’s what I expect for the price. The geometry is great and they took my kids from not liking bikes to loving riding.

of course the trailcraft is going to be a better bike, i would be extremely disappointed if it wasn't considering it is 3x the price.

i have an STP 24 for my son. definitely a better bike than the ramones, but also more expensive.

16” ramones here.  No issues.

heavy but otherwise great.  Those big vee tires are probably the best feature- can run 7 psi so the kid has some cushion and traction.

Mine had a 20 and 24 DH, cased a lot of jumps on those bikes and they survived. Only issue was bending a crank arm and Commencal couldn't provide a replacement. He still wants a Commencal, they can thank Remy for that, but went with a Transition Scout and Norco carbon Aurum so now his DH bike is lighter than the Scout! Shopping for his next bike but Commencal not on my list, still on his though.

what I read here is that the super small ones have issues, my kids had a clash 24 that they passed down among them, and that thing is a tank.. still going strong as a rental in a busy bikepark town... if you want light bikes, go spawn or something else

What brand bars did you put on? Curious about finding taller ones for my son but don't want to go super wide.

My son rode the ramones 20" & 24", my daughter had the 14" then she rode his old 20" and is now on the 24". The parts are cheap but I just swapped out stuff as it broke.

My son on the 24" with an old fox fork lowered to around 3". Killed the rear wheel this day and moved to a small 27.5 bike and is ripping.
