You cannot eliminate rocks from a place like Snowshoe. THey are a part of the package. I do agree with chicken lines/ bypasses being available but they also need to be technical. If a bypass allows a retention of speed that the original line does not, everyone will hit the bypass and it might create a situation opposite of intended.

Yeah, but you can eliminate rolling rocks or rocks that move while you ride over them.
I agree with that the chicken lines have to be technical as well and slower than the main line, but not 10 secs slower. Would also be a good opportunity for changing the course if it e.g. rains badly and the main line would get too risky. Close the main line and leave the easier line open.
Within reason but you launch a full field of mens and womens juniors plus a full field of mens and womens pros 3 or 4 times (practice, timed practice, qualifying, race run) down the same course, you are not going to be able to eliminate moving terrain. What was solid in place will move after all of that.

This round did seem to produce more injuries and mechanicals than average. I wonder if it's partly influenced by all the Europeans being jet lagged. I mean, race pace while in a haze of tiredness, could go bad easily. Probably only a minor factor tho. Just a thought.

Personally I would have loved to see a real showdown with Daprella and Minnaar in the mix and clean runs from e.g. Brook, Kerr, Vergier. That would truely show who out-performed whom and not who stayed healthy and on the bike in a fairly random way.

I'm confused, what are you proposing to mitigate injury risk? Smoother tracks (like Leogang before they added woods)? Those are typically said as being poor tracks to race by the racers themselves, one line, extreme speeds etc.

My ideas would be:
- mandatory safety gear/protection
- mandatory concussion check by the race doc after every crash where you hit your head
- slowing down the high speed sections with chicanes and such
- making going off line less punishing, so no resulting crash or mechanical (e.g. not like Les Gets this kicker in the open that Kolb nearly died on, Snowshoe rock gardens and this little bridge that Loris missed in his run)
- padding on all trees that a rider potentially could hit (was there a crash pad on that tree in Snowshoe after the drop that everybody hit?)
- establishing of safe crash zones on risky sections of the track
- make the chicken lines less of a time penalty to hit, that would incentivise more riders to be reasonable and not feel pressured to (wo)man up
It doesnt matter how short the chicken line is if it's slower riders will ride the fast line.
-99% sure there already is mandatory safety gear.
-I agree concussion checks should be done.
-I am 50/50 on the high speed section as that is what makes some of the most intense racing to watch and it is not necessarily the speed is the issue but the surroundings at speed.
-crash pads on any tree would be almost impossible and there are very few head on tree accidents that have caused injurie. usually they hit the tree and bounce off causing a crash. I believe Gee Ahterton hit a fully padded tree at speed and still suffered an injury.
-if you start trying to clean up crash zones you will essentially making lines for riders to avoid obstacles and go faster.

Seemed like most were here for almost a week before the race started. If you travel the world and healthy you should be able to adjust fairly quick. If not maybe I need a job a jet lag travel coordinator

Flying less than 6 hours west is considerably easier than basically any flight. It effectively feels like sleeping in. You’d be racing in what feels like the afternoon or evening and getting up for an early lunch. I would say the pacific guys who weren’t staying in Europe probably had a harder time per usual.

a huge reason I admire and watch these racers is that they're willing to ride at Danger Level 7. Love it. Some of you guys should be watching sim racing.
