Varaxis Added a comment about feature First Look: Shimano XTR Di2 Electronic Shifting for MTB
5/30/2014 12:35pm Synchro shift reminds me of that one grip shifter that shifted both front and rear derailleurs, which showed up at Interbike or Sea otter a few years ago. This syncro shift turns that 3x11 into a 11+3 or 2x11 into 11+2, for a total of 14 or 13 gears. Goes to show that you just need a tiny bit of extra range on each end and SRAM XX1 delivers just that, and offers designers the path to efficiently design for a single ring only. I still want a good affordable 1x system. Perhaps if SRAM made their cassette for $100...

Varaxis Added a comment about feature Vital Power Rankings - Cairns, Australia World Cup - The 15 Fastest Racers Going In
4/23/2014 11:28pm I'm liking these Power Rankings. I agree with this one for the most part. I didn't have any bets on Hill either, considering the story about his incident with the kangaroo. Not sure why Brook MacDonald's still on this though. Shocked that Danny Hart isn't on this. Love how the young guys are kicking ass. Loic Bruni was my fav last year.

Reviewed by Jess Pedersen and John Hauer // Photos by Shawn Spomer and Lear Miller Inspired by the aggressive Mason 29er hardtail, Diamondback's 140mm Mason FS entry into the mid to long-travel full suspension 29er trail bike market serves up a rowdy looking package. Curious to see how recent improvements to the suspension and frame design played out, we pointed the Mason FS up and down some of the rowdiest trails in Sedona, Arizona during the 2014 Vital MTB Test Sessions. Mason FS Pro Highlights 6061-T6 weapons grade aluminum frame 29-inch wheels 5.5-inches (140mm) of rear wheel travel Knuckle Box...

I thought it felt really good on jumps too. Good candidate for raw, open, and faster terrain. Felt pretty good sprinting into descents that I normally coasted into. Thing didn't really care what was in the trail; it just kept going straight without slowing down. Just had to pay attention to the turns, slowing down accordingly and taking the best line to maintain speed. One of the bikes I demo'd that I'd love to demo on some other trails, at least for the novelty factor, but not to own, as I'd be sad on the climbs. It had super balanced...

1/31/2014 12:38pm Slick, a Deuter-like pack that actually has color and style that's bearable. Being lightweight is a big plus. I thought my Osprey Raptor, which replaced my ugly Deuter was kind of heavy. Sadly, I think that the magnetic hose stowage was what sold me. When I was in FL and NY, I loved the tapered shape of the Deuter, and how it can duck under tree branches and not snag, but that doesn't really help me anymore now that I'm in the middle of a desert, unless I head far off to the mountains.

#19, looks like he's magically cornering without his tires on the ground. Great pic!

The bonus gallery's slideshow was still too fast on the slow setting. I see from the photos that you scratched and beat up that bike, yet it still looked sharp. For some reason, in the action photos, all I saw was the bike and the terrain. It took me at least 3 looks to notice those goofy blue outfits you guys had on.

1/18/2014 8:24pm Hey guys! Figured I would jump in on this one! I will DEFINITELY be racing all of the World Cups, I wouldn't have come back if I couldn't! I think I will be able to bring a lot to the table even if I am not focusing 100% of my efforts on winning them. As for the Asthma; Apparently I have Vocal Chord Dysfunction which has similar symptoms but doesn't respond to the same treatment. You would think all of these world class doctors would have caught it but I guess not haha. I'm not 100% cured or anything but...

Really nice looking trail. What's with the inconsistent build quality? In some parts, it looks very professionally made and well thought out for low maintenance considering how wet it can get, but in a few bits in the vid it looks amateur.

Wonder what it was about my post that was found negative. Do VitalMTB members really like those 6.5k carbon bikes? I was implying that if people spent as much money on trails as they did on bikes, there could be a lot of these around. Congrats on the new trail. Hope you guys get more work. The world needs more legal fun-to-ride trails. A man demands variety and trails designed with bikes in mind ride much better than the standard public multi-use ones.

Looks like they came in with the philosophy: why spend 6.5k on a fancy carbon FS bike made to tame the chaos when you can spend 1.5k on a very nice bike and 5k on a trail without any real chaos, but looks pretty fun (at least for a short while)...
