dsmdan18 That's why Stephen Colbert goes with his gut. “That’s where the truth lies, right down here in the gut. Do you know you have more nerve endings in your gut than you have in your head? You can look it up. Now, I know some of you are going to say, ‘I did look it up, and that’s not true.’ That’s ’cause you looked it up in a book. Next time, look it up in your gut. I did. My gut tells me that’s how our nervous system works.”

All of your points make sense, but I don’t think Eliot’s goal is widespread adoption by POC or equal representation. If I’m hearing him right, he’s just scratching his head that zero other kids like him or his brother Andrew had his opportunities or felt welcome. I think his goals are pretty modest and realistic- make the sport more welcoming and more inclusive.

I suspect this is the case as you change air volume in a tire, but I'm not sure the user can feel it. The air volume effect on a tire certainly isn't anything like a fork where you can keep adding tokens until it's IMPOSSIBLE to bottom out. But I have a hunch this effect is part of the reason we run 22-25 psi in 29x2.5" Maxxis DH tires whereas everyone used to run 29-32 psi in 26x2.5" Maxxis DH tires. On top of being a smaller diameter, those old 2.5" 26 Minions were crazy skinny. I think the old...

Awesome! Diversity in cycling is a small aspect of a massive, complicated, and global issue. There's no easy solutions, but initiatives like this will hopefully help bring a change for the better. Definitely contributing :-)

Obviously, widespread adoption at the WC level will be the real test. I know Neko also tested with it but I don't recall seeing it on his bike lately.

That looked so good and like stupid fun to ride. Let off the brakes and rip some turns. Went to a race at Shasta in 2008 I think and I remember immediately switching to flats. Pumped to see the mountain is funding this bike park and expanding trails.

"We aren’t taking salaries or any wages to do this. Currently, everyone working at Grow Cycling Foundation is a volunteer. Aside from platform hosting fees and administrative costs, 100% of your donations go directly to Grow Cycling initiatives and are tax-deductible." I just want to put this here because its important. Too many non profits (cough protect our winters cough) turn into a self serving non profit that aim to support the people that run them as much as (more than) the cause they aim to have an effect on. Beyond this, what I think is rad about Eliot's non-profit...

"Very slow DH speeds, doing very low-speed drops to flat, or locking your rear brake through big compressions." I think you accidentally but perfectly described a squid. This may also be O-Chain's dream customer.

He probably said that because when you pump hard you actually end up using the 'platform' from the air spring beginning to ramp up.

How does a bike even work with 25mm id rims - I mean I'm surprised no one has died yet 😉😉

A couple years ago I had a "park" drivetrain setup and a "trail" setup for the same bike. Just two chains and cassettes. I used a Shimano XT 11-speed drivetrain with 11-34 and 11-42 cassettes. The HG800 11-34 road cassette uses an MTB freehub width. It's nice to have a shorter chain and tighter gearing for park.

Most bike parks I've been to have included a lot of pedaling around villages and parking lots, traversing flat connector trails, or riding flattish fire roads to access "the good stuff." Gearing has rarely been a problem for me, but having to stand for ages to pedal or having to sit and pedal from a low seat gets old. A dropper and a lockout lever sounds pretty great on a DH bike at Whistler.

Disagree on all points. 38's still creak, and nothing compares to the stiffness of a dual crown fork for big holes, steep terrain, and heavy braking. If you're in a bike park there's no need for 12 speeds, and the longer chain and derailleur cage are much more likely to make clack-clack noises and get bent. Lastly, it's not a coincidence that Fox makes the most durable seatposts and the ones with the highest stack height. Bushing overlap = durability. Pretty simple.

Was actually swapping to a dh set up like this until I noticed the rear triangle cracked in the process and the frame linkages and bearings destroyed as result. Month later and still waiting on my replacement frame under warranty. Lifetime warranty is only as good as the shop that can manage to get it done for you under such strain due to the LBS Covid Bike Rage! And to make matters worse, the Yeti rep already seen the pics and said it was a layup issue but still needed to go thru the LBS to process the warranty claim...
