A couple things to add in no particular order some relevant some maybe not: 'wide open' does not mean no damping, it just means the least restrictive end of whatever damping range is available in your fork/shock. If you really want to know what wide open feels like take your fork cartridge out, but good luck trying to ride on anything but pavement. The best damper in the world cannot correct for a poorly set up spring. You really do want to be using your available travel, but that doesn't mean bottoming out a specific number of times. 'mid stroke...

Great question Brines. I'm totally bought into the spring as the more important system. I think you should do 90% of your tuning with the spring and let damping do the last 10%. I learned this the hard way in 2014 at the Leogang World Cup. I was getting destroyed by the high-speed chatter and constant small to medium-sized holes...

When asked about their number one design objective for the new Gambler, Scott’s engineers said “low weight.” When asked about their lowest priority when choosing components, bikes, and tires, Scott’s EWS and WC athletes said “low weight.”

Bike companies work hard to make sure there's at least one thing wrong with The Groundbreaking New Bike so they have something to change and hype when v.2 comes out 9 months later.

Kiran MacKinnon (works for SC) using the same idea: shorter reach, backwards buzzworks and longer stays. He and I talked about it at Tamarack and he thinks it's all relation of body weight/position to BB. he also thinks longer reach is yanking riders too far forward these days. when the front end drops, their arms get straightened more than they should. it's all really interesting. kiran's bike from tamarack - https://www.vitalmtb.com/photos/features/PIT-BITS-Tamarack-Pro-GRT-NW-C…

477mm rear end, and interestingly they got rid of the Buzzworks headset to make the front end 8mm shorter. All my life I've heard how short chainstays corner better, but Greg seems to be doing fine on the limousine. I hope all the engineers at SC talk to each other, because the 2019 Nomad still has 430mm chainstays in Large and XL.

I'm disappointed to see the large inboard bearing, you'll end up standing on it at some point in a race run and it will keep your shoes from full pin penetration. My favorite part of the old pedals was the uncompromising grip (with the longer than standard pins) no matter where your foot was placed and the uninterrupted platform was the main reason for that. The lack of a raised inboard bearing on the old pedal essentially afforded me an extra and necessary 10ish mm of usable platform for my larger than average foot wearing 5.10 Impact shoes. What is...

Yeah- I can't stand the DH casing Maxxis- they only come with their sticky MaxxGrip rubber and roll SLOW. Great for lift/shuttle riding but I can't pedal them. DoubleDown usually comes with the faster rolling MaxxTerra rubber and seems a good compromise of grip/ rolling speed/ wear. I'm also having good luck with Schwalbe SuperGravity casing with Apex Soft rubber (orange stripe)... very similar to Maxxis DoubleDown. What I really want is DH casing for the rear tire with MaxxTerra rubber. MAXXIS MAKE IT HAPPEN PLEASE!!!
