skypig Added a reply to Brake bleed isn’t working

It should work no problems. If you did use DOT fluid, which damaged the seals in the lever (Master Cylinder), then the seals in the calliper might be affected. I have more experience with motorcycles. The size of the piston affects the “feel”. If the lever is designed for a 2 piston calliper, it might have a lot of lever...

Ha! Classic - Bars “I’m just telling you - these forks are HARSH!” Also, don’t want to “disguise” an issue elsewhere. My old wrists should be happier with plusher forks, and some assistance from the bars when they arrive.

While waiting on my One Up bars to arrive, I had my forks “serviced”. The local experts, NSD Dynamics (Brisbane, Australia) offer a “Hyperformance” service. Low friction seals, “better oil”, and bushes “resized”, etc. A significant improvement. The bike feels less “harsh”. The Bars don’t feel as bad.

I’ve just had my almost new Fox 36’s “serviced” and fitted with those seals. Hard to say if it was the bushing resize/attention to detail/ or the racing bros seals - but a nice improvement.

All other things equal - I’ll take the lighter one. (Even if it’s more expensive.) Carbon frames seem “worth it” to me. Strength/weight ratio, plus the ability to have different (complex) shapes and vary the “weave” and thickness as required for strength and flex characteristics is unique. Same goes for bars - waiting on my One Up Carbon bars -...
I’ve never seen so many people on my local trails. The “authorities” have closed the car park at another local trail. Apparently LBS are booming. “Exercise” is a legitimate reason to leave home in QLD Australia. (Staying “local”) Everyone seems to be out walking or riding their bikes. Lots of families. Nice. Amongst the madness.

Thanks for the info - makes sense. I’ll upgrade for sure. Only Q is 36t or 54t My other bike is a 2017 Trance Advanced 1, an “XT” bike. It’s on the other side of the country, at work, I might not be back for a while... It has a really loud ratchet, and has a faster engagement. Is it...

I’m only slightly embarrassed to have been running the lockout lever in the wrong position. I just left it set in what I thought, at first glance, to be open/soft..... Who puts two arrows on an instruction?!

Thanks guys. I really appreciate the info and feedback. Just ordered a set of One Up bars. Again, their communication and service have been excellent. (They sorted out a “free shipping” glitch for me.)

My latest bike came with 35mm Truvativ Descendant 20mm riser bars. They seem to have similar flex characteristics to that of an Anvil. The new model - 25mm risers- advertise “fine tuned carbon laminate... more flex and feel” One Up have an oval shape for more “vertical compliance” - makes sense, but I’m easily fooled. Anyone have any experience? A...

I've been lucky enough to get some fast-engaging rear hubs My new Giant Reign Advanced Pro 29 0, came with some nice components. The ratchet seems ”course” (“Slow engaging”?) Excuse my ignorance - what would I need to replace to improve the situation? “Free hub body”? Any recommendations?
Coaching - as others have said. Being an “experienced” age, I was confident I knew what I was doing. I’ve been riding off road bikes since I was a kid - pre BMX - jumping my “dragster”. I still race MX - in the “vet’s” class. After a few crashes - I relented and payed for some coaching. The content...

For all but elite riders? Good quality coaching. Making positive changes to your riding basics and squishing bad habits will do far more to help you down every trail than any bike part could. The better a bike you already own, the more true this becomes. Never mind fancy tires, faster hubs or shock tunes, the difference between good and bad body position blows all that out of the water. The only caveat is the upgrade is only as good as the coach.

Skull valve caps. Can't afford? Dice or bullet ones are also good.

It’s hot in the Australian desert. I sweat eating chili. I sweat a lot riding up hills in the summer heat. ( I love chili, and riding.) Usually I wear a bike specific bandanna or skull cap under my helmet. Seems to work for a while, then it’s like a sprinkler turns on in my eyebrow. Sweat runs down over...

That looks like it might deal with my well hydrated, “leaking” head! US$20 + $17.50 shipping is not the worst I’ve seen. One headband I found had automatic shipping to Australia at over $100! (Shame our $ is worth US.56c right now!!

Might try one of these. It’s really bothering me. Might be worse since going full face.
