I don't hate electronic shifting, but I'm wondering what the actual benefits are. You save weight on a cable but add it back with a battery. You get precise shifting, but said battery could run out and leave you stuck in the wrong gear. You get an easier maintenance schedule (just charge it and go,) but it's more regularly-occurring. I'd prefer to do the (occasional) maintenance on a cable system, myself.

For me it comes down to cost, and weight. I am a weight weenie and can't imagine paying MORE for a part that is heavier and more expensive than the item it is replacing. Plus I have seen countless racers not start or take a DNF b/c they forgot to charge their battery. It boggles my mind, you do all this training and prep and then something as small as not having a charge in a battery forces you to DNS/DNF. Plus, I love the way XTR feels ergonomically, and those "pods" don't look that inviting.

Don’t want to risk derailing another thread as this was I think created from the tech rumours one going off track. But yeah regarding T Type and drivetrain wear. I can’t remember all the numbers and details (got them at work if needed). I'm fortunate to have GX Transmission on one bike. It works really, really well, but I'd strongly prefer mechanical T-Type due to cost and battery anxiety. Here's my spending priorities: 00. Great tires 1. Good fork 2. Good brakes 3. Good shock 4. Carbon frame 5. Good wheelset (only lower priority because I'll kill the rims in year 1 then lace up my own with a DT350) 6. Robot derailleur I live for long rides deep in the mountains. Usually involves a lot of driving, which drains the battery if you forget to remove. Batteries are just one more thing...

One thing to keep in mind that cutting bars usually reduces the flex. I usually ride 760 mm and there are not a lot of options on the market for narrower bars. So I really like the Era! btw: I use a Newmen SL 31.8 aluminium bar in 760.

I've ridden Rekons, Ground Controls, and now the new Forekasters and definitely feel like they are the most capable of the bunch. The Rekons roll really fast, the Ground Controls roll similarly fast and have a little better corner grip, but the Forekasters really step up traction with only a marginal (perceived) decrease in rolling speed.

GRID T7 would be the ticket for the Ground Control, if you want to push it a bit beyond the XC/trail realm.

I like the Ground Control for drier conditions on long days as well. Allround combo is Butcher/Eliminator for me. Best for shred are still Assegai/DHR II.

For those of you that use a Rekon or the old/new Forekaster, try the new Specialized Ground Control T7. I use the 29x2.35 and it is better than all of the Maxxis tires I have tried in this segment and it's not even close. Factor in price and I literally don't know why anyone would go with a Maxxis.
