I have this conversation with a lot of customers. In the PNW, these are 2nd/3rd/etc bikes. If you want one rig for everything, most of these brands offer a 140mm 29er, which seems to be the sweet spot. Unfortunately, the 140mm completes typically come with a spec that is burlier/heavier, almost the same as their 160mm counterparts. What I've been doing lately is custom building the 140mm platform with a build kit that is closer to the 120mm builds. Pike, 27mm rims, 2.3 or 2.4 EXO tires, etc. Keep the weight under 30lbs but have enough travel to back up...

Some of us here in the alps do not use trains (or cable lifts) or shuttle services (for day to day riding), i.e. we pedal, have tried e-MTBs and see no reason at all to switch to them. The power is a quickly wearing off gimmick (it was meh after about 15 minutes of turbo mode), they are heavier, much more expensive, require more expensive maintenance and they ride down hill much worse than proper bikes do. Ice, what ever you do, keep doing the reviews the same way!, i really enjoy it and although i never wrote it before....i really appreciate it.
