8/3/2024 10:20am DK in the video. ‘bout half way thru : “I put my bike next to Harry Molly’s GT and our bars are the same height. I just have a short head tube” so this high bar thing, it’s not just DK. Nice pics of all his spacers etc by the way. Very informative.

8/3/2024 10:10am Here's a pic of Dak's bike with a normal set of bars last season on Intense. Just for funsies, let's say he's got a 40mm rise bar, an extra 10mm of spacers under the stem, an extra 10mm spacer under the top crown, and a head tube that's 10mm taller than his new Mondraker. That would be the same bar-to-ground height as his new Fort Bill setup with 80mm bars, but no one in the universe would look at this and call it "normal." You would do a double take if you saw this pile-of-spacers bike setup in the pits...

7/25/2024 8:56am Respectfully, Dak's bars are definitely high. Very high. He's running 80mm bars with spacers under the stem and crown. He's running everything he can get to move his bars as high as physically possible. This was his setup at Fort Bill, which is known for being a flat track, but he's still got a 5mm spacer under the stem and 20mm under the top crown. I guarantee you he added even more spacers for the much steeper tracks at Val di Sole and Les Gets.

7/25/2024 8:56am I'm jut surprised the discussion is on something as simple as bar height and not that wacky headset cup thing they're doing or more convo about all the suspension tech and Loic's buttons and stuff lol. But nah bars go tall is what gets people talkin the most. I've tried to go back to normal bars but for all around riding I just feel way more comfortable with my Highsides. A mixture of BMX background (as they say) and multiple injuries on my right arm effectively reducing its reach and strength means I like to keep things upright and chill...

7/25/2024 8:57am I see your point, they sure do look high, and that pic makes it hard to believe but but wasn’t it mentioned in the video that his bars are actually the same height as some of his DH colleagues running "normal" (old school) bars?

7/25/2024 3:39am Rear centre length is a huge proponent to front end grip that gets overlooked. If the CS is long enough, it literally drives the front wheel into the ground almost. My current bike has a 463mm CS, I could put my stem on backwards and still have grip lol. Sure I cant manual now, put my bike on a rack, bunnyhop or make any tight corners, but at least I got grip!

7/25/2024 2:45am Yesterday on the tech rumours thread somebody stated that your bars should be at least as high as your saddle at full extension, otherwise they're probably too low if you're on a trail or enduro bike. I changed last year from a lower rise (15mm lower) bar and it certainly feels better, however, this struck me as quite a bold statement, as so much depends on the height of the rider and also to some extent, the bike you ride. Also I don't believe there's a magic bullet that will work for every rider, any more than there is with...

7/25/2024 2:44am That certainly makes sense to me. I had the benefit of very expert bike designer Chris Porter at Geometron watch me turning. He talks a lot about how Moto GP engineers set up their riders they dint tell the rider to adapt - they alter the bike setup to make it behave right under that rider Chris raised my bar...

7/25/2024 2:28am Paul Aston has said several times that higher front ends are easier to load - confidence of not being pulled forward on steep stuff Often translates into MORE front end Traction. Its common to watch a lower Handlebar height (from ground) rider 'swing off the back' to keep from being pulled forward vs a Higher bar allowing a rider to stay higher naturally letting them lean forward and load the front of the bike, This obviously has its limits. Shorter riders often dont have this problem as they stand more balanced in between the wheels and the height on a...

7/25/2024 2:22am Shipping bikes with longer steerer tubes would be a big start... A ton of bikes only allow a fully slammed stem out of the box and the solution is to replace the complete fork or CSU.

7/25/2024 2:14am DN’s bar height is same as other riders the bars just compensate for his very short head tube. So it’s not the bars they are discussing it’s his body position.

7/25/2024 2:11am Eoin with a slack head angle every 10mm extra spacers reduces reach by 4mm. He mentioned that in the video. Plus he uses the low stem to get his head real low too.

7/25/2024 2:08am Yeah Fred but look at how he uses the low stack to get his head low. Hence no crossbar on his 75mm bars.

9/14/2022 9:32am Point taken. I’ve never clobbered one as I use their chainguide with skid plate. Love the oval. Each to their own. Graphene pads? If it is toxic you have to ask why?!

My riding observations: I've been running these for about 6 months, in Northern and Southern Utah on my Transition Patrol, and have come across very impressed. My typical set up is a Double Down or similar casing out back, with a lighter duty tire up front, and 28 Front /30 Rear for air pressure. With that same setup but with the inserts, I can safely run as low as 22 PSI front and rear, without worrying about rolling a tire or dinging a rim. For more natural trails I may be able to do a bit lower, but for me...

@teamrobot isn't wrong. Robots are never wrong. What you are describing however isn't new, nor is it isolated to mountain biking. I have zero idea what the number is but my two cents worth of a guess is 95% of all the shit marketed to dudes never gets used near to its potential nor heritage by which it was produced. Dirt bikes. Mountain bikes. Snowmobiles. UTVs. Fast cars. Powertools. You name it. Most guys buy shit and come nowhere near using it to the degree it was engineered. I remember bumping into a really fast enduro rider before enduro was...

I do get what you are saying, for sure. I just added a Trek Top Fuel (2020) to my garage along with a new Enduro. Guess which bike is more fun on most of the trails I ride? Yup, the XCish one. I can load the bike so much easier on the tiniest of trail features and absolutely smash corners (well, as much as I can smash anyway). Its fun to be able to throw a bike around. But it also gets overwhelmed on the more legit DH stuff (very very quickly). By far one of my favorite bikes was...

I feel the same based on many years of riding and racing experience. I trained and rode hard and raced very aggressively for years. I rarely pushed my equipment to the limits but when I did it was always the steeper head tube/fork angles and compact bikes - on the downhill. They were amazing climbing but with a high penalty. I take less chances these days and I ride less aggressively. Most of the time. I would love to try out a bike which is DH focused but tailored to be more accommodating to other styles of riding. As an...
