No more leaking Shimano brakes for me. If I were to go back to hydraulics it would be something expensive, high end. I need brakes that work and last, with proper seals. seems like SHimano don't have quality control, so brakes come leaking, or start to leak after few months, some after few rides, some after few hours. so far 5 brakes out of 4 sets, ridiculous. but TRP Spyke is not perfect, the barrel adjuster on the caliper is very fragile.

Man there are plenty other brands besides Shimano. I’ve had zero issues with any hydraulic brakes I’ve owned. Bike looks good... except.. that rear tire fender is hideous! Throw that away and never look back or put it on your spouse’s beach cruiser

there are multiple reasons for this mudguard, and I refuse to remove it, it protects my sensitive body parts from the tyre, especially with studded tyres it's a mus. but also it keeps mud away from the dropper post that the tyre sprays, also keeps the shorts cleaner, thus putting less wear on the saddle, shorts, keeping the butt section of the shorts dry, so in cold weather I don't get freezing cold, so no need for waterproof shorts, and it's more breathable, comfortable.
I am working on a post on my website where i will explain why I went with each of the components went for.

These are the brakes I will ride with for a while, but I might try other brakes at later point.also I am looking into hub options, so far Onyx looks promising.

I won't go for anything with DOT fluid.
I know of several options, I have researched probably all hydraulic brakes in existence. this is definitely not final build.
the TRP Spyke levers are not perfect, nor are the barrel adjuster on the Spyke caliper, it's very fragile, actually the suspension movement ruins it, so I am testing how it does with it turned all the way in. I have mentioned this issue in my review. I have review of the Spyke ML800 brake lever too.

which Hydraulic brake would you recommend and why, which would you not recommend and why?
I need great tolerances, it has to work from day one no leaking, no more having multiple brakes leak and warranty on all or several and doing this endlessly, I need durability, properly engineered, it has to work well with my bike, I want durable hoses, it has to be easy to work on no absurd design choices, mineral oil or other that is not DOT(toxic automotive brake fluid, that eats paint, skin, bad for eyes) , proper adjustability is needed, reach, I also want pad adjustment, so if pads are worn I dont have to fill with fluid, and then empty it out when I change pads, this will allow for fast, easy change of worn pads. I need good clamping of lever like on TRP Spyke, TRP Quadiem, TRP Slate, the design of the clamp is really low profile with good clamping placement, thus resulting in great clearance, which I need for Archer shifter remote. which Shimano M6000 was not ideal for, I had to had the shifter placed so the mount on the shifter remote was in the gap of the clamp of the M6000 brake.
SHimano had a ridiculous design on the clamp, which they solved in the new brakes, they have clamp design with bolt at the top near the master cylinder, which is a much better design than previous, they also improved stiffness. but due to the lack of quality control, Issues I had with evil circle of leaking brakes I have given up on Shimano brakes.

Funny, yes and no, its not a DH bike, yet has the weight of one :O . Reminds me of how NS Bikes are constructed, very sturdy = heavy lol. Your like the I9 hubs, that's what I use on my hardtail, was a night an day difference coming from a set of easton heist 30 rims.

Why does this bike has a lock? And whats going on with this rear fender? Is this a commuter? Sorry but so many questions...

As stated, the lock on the bike is for testing purposes, I tested the mounting bracket, it failed the test, I wanted to see if the bracket would hold the lock securely with smashing the bashguard, doing big drops, riding hard, I have a review on my website, and the lock is gone, I only mounted it there to test it, I no longer have it there, it's a good idea to have several locks and having a lock with an alarm is not a bad idea. the other questions has already been explained in the comments.

I will probably answer a lot of the questions in a post I am working on, on my website, it will be a while before I am finished with it, but I got a lot done. this bike is my do it all bike, so all multi hour rides, gnarly trails, both up and down, but also a lot of bike paths and dirt roads, my rides involve a mix of most types of riding, So I need a bike that can handle it all well.
No this is not my commuter bike, I don't work, I am retired, and suffer from many problems, back,neck, wrists, I even have to ride with wrist supports cus my wrists are so floppy, no more missed turns with wrist supports.

If I had to ride to work a lighter Xc or trail bike would be more suitable, but I would keep riding full suspension cus of my back, neck, it's really easy to throw them out, so I could not ride a hardtail on gnarly stuff, and if riding a hardtail it can only be on easy, smooth trails or asphalt. but I am working out so I hope it will help, I definitely have gained some stability in the lower back , but still very easy to be messed up.

Updated it, it's actually about 18.5 kg with this tyre setup of course it will be heavier with studded tyres. I have re calibrated the scale, so it shows closer weight, but I don't trust it to be 100% accurate.
this bike is beeefy yes, it's a large, so it has 515mm reach, but the reach and geometry on this bike makes sense, so it's a long bike, it's long, the bike is set up with coil front and back. for me it's important to have a durable, reliable, bike, so I don't mind the weight. and yes the tubing is thick, the down tube is the same as on G19, their DH bike. the seat tube is also thick, this is why it's 30.9 not 31.8.
the bike is stiff enough for me, it fits me great, it's planted, stable, corners great, very stable steering, the whole package is in a different league to my previous bike, my previous bike was very flexible, had plenty of issues, silly flaws, Trek does not even offer a frame in the reach I need.
to me G1 was the only bike that fit my requirements.

this bike won't feel like riding a hammock, not will it be twitchy, it's easy to ride, cus it's so stable, so long, reach is perfect, and head angle is so slack, but as with any bike you need some getting used to, find the balance points, I am feeling at home on this bike already, with such a different bike, you just need some time, so don't let one test ride fool into thinking it's a impossible bike to ride unless only riding a trail, you can actually manual it, wheelie, make it drift, do fakies, throw it in the air, just like my previous bike.

the frame is basically a DH frame intended for less travel, thus it's a proper enduro bike. larger the bike heavier it is, disciplines like enduro or DH require a beefy bike. I saw a pic of a bike that was crashed so hard on a jump that steerer tube bent, the rear wheel was crushed, but the bike survived. So I trust this bike to handle stuff I will never do. it's worth investing in a trouble free bike. My trek Fuel ex could make someone mad, so many issues it was much lighter, but it had air suspension, shorter reach, steeper head angle, short wheelbase, but long chainstay, geo, sizing was bad match for me.

nothing funny about this bike, this is a great bike. maybe your comment is irony. of course I could put carbon rims, carbon seat, stem, install Cane Creek ee-Wings titanium cranks, a once piece CNC's cassette. so far what I have here works for me now, but a thing I want to upgrade is hubs, I want something with better engagement. So of course Onyx Vesper or I9 Hydra are some of the best options it seems. with stem I would not save much weight on, nor a saddle, but it all adds up, Cane Creek ee-Wings are the lightest cranks you can get now I think, even lighter than carbon cranks from all the common brands, unless there is some rare crank or custom option I forgot about or don't know of.

I did weigh the bike without lights, and with summer High Roller 2 2.30, otherwise exact same, it is at 17.80 kg.

18.70 kg now with acerbic X-Elite hand guards and swapped Box One for Shimano M6100 SGS, Michelin Wild Enduro tyres.
