Another awesome podcast. I was Toby's mechanic in 1993, Team Iron Horse (Toby, Bernie U, SHandro, Penny Davidson, Leigh Donovan and Mark Gullickson for XC) and Toby was always into product development, making things look or tick a bit better-and we had some fun. Funny side note on his talking about the birth of the fenders in 1998 Big Bear, the snow race, Leigh Donovan won that DH by almost 20 seconds, which was the largest winning margin of a NORBA national-and having that THE fender on was part of the magic! Nice work Vital/Spomer/Toby

Looked up T.H.E. while listening (just before the part where he discusses selling it off) just to see what's what over there [spoiler: not much, he wasn't joking]...but, the fenders are going for $7 right now. Guess what's in the mail? On a different note, what a cool story, quite the hustle and drive! Really interesting to learn about how much he was involved in product development and innovation early on.

Yes they did! LTS came around in 1995. I believe RTS stood for ”Rocker Tuned System”, whereas LTS meant ”Light Tubing System” and STS was definitely ”Single Tube System”. RTS appeared in 1992, I think.

Nor did I tell you if I go into the gym shower to look at guys... that's just your hangup because you assumed i was gay for calling you sensitive about seeing a few pixels of male genitalia. I'd be willing to bet you would not have protested if there was a sneaky boob in there. Basically calm down and don't be so close minded and easily offended. I highly doubt anyone here has got off on that pic, which was only ever intended as a bit of light humour...

Correction: Wiesmann invented the Wie-brake, not the V-brake! The patent is from 1927 and Keith Bontrager did the side-pull brake on the Kestrel in 1989. Maybe Florian should be mentioned for putting ridiculous motorcycle wheels and suspension on a DH bike back in 1996.

8/25/2017 1:35pm Now everybody and their cat will have an ”opinion” on carbon frames' and Santa Cruz' durability, totally ignoring the simple fact that no bike is designed to take side impacts from poles. It's as if you would act surprised if you hit you bike with an axe and it breaks or if you hit a concrete wall at full speed...

I have a Commencal Meta 4.2 and love it. That said, Max has zero clue about trail access in areas like my state, Colorado. Hikers, Horse riders, and many land managers look for EVERY SINGLE reason to kick bikes off of trails. Already rumblings of closing more access to bikes specifically because of the 'e-bike' movement. Not sure how it is in Europe, but that is what we live with in the USA.
