I can tell with absolute certainty it's not California. Haven't lived there, but whenever I've traveled to northern Italy it's been very affordable for what you get. 40 euro lift tickets (at least they were about 10 years ago). Bed & breakfasts that are clean and have nice home-cooked food for about 100 euro per night, right across from ski resorts. A couple I know of close to retiring are planning on moving somewhere there because it's just so much cheaper.

Combination of DC fork and steerer mounted stem is a blasphemy, other than that it's a cool machine.

I think its fair to say its a trend then. In addition to the chainring, I was amazed how many spots the chain violently hits the frame on this bike, too- I went pretty nuts with the mastic tape here, and was shocked how many chain slap marks showed up in bizarre spots

Put a tube in at high pressure for 15 min right after taping a new rim. It pushes the tape flush into the bed, seals the edges, and squeezes out air bubbles. An old car tire works great as a soft, grippy floor platform so you don't scratch up your rims or rotors while working on them. Using a Makita DMP181 or similar cordless pump isn't cheating if you already have the batteries lying around anyway. My setup in the photo: Cut-down car tire, a sealant syringe with some PU tubing from the farm section of a local hardware store...

I come from the motorcycle side of things. In that world, when changing tires you must put the tire out in the sunlight for 1.3 hours, polish your tire spoons and 12mm wrench, use lots of lube, preferably have a cheerleader and a wellness coach keeping you calm, build a small fire, and sacrifice a live chicken at the altar of the tire gods. For bicycles, I break the bead and rip the tire off with my bare hands and often do the same to put a new one on. (I have some plastic Bell levers that came in a...

Looking at the nicolai, I can't help but imagine trying to explain to the park ranger than I am actually riding a Class 1 pedal assist ebike, and not a surron type e-moto. I want an eDH bike as much as anyone but I'm not sure this is a good direction for ebikes to be going. Let's make more ebikes that look like bikes, not motorcycles.
