"Sam's The King, give him a crown" - Steve Peat Do the kids today know what kind of impact Sam had on DH racing? The kind of fear he struck into the minds of his competitors? And he did it the right way - few words, fast riding. And not just point it fast riding, but creative riding - seeing lines and finding speed where no one else did or could. I think this is what made him great. In a sport where you can conceivably win by simply pointing and letting go of the brakes he would seem to...

Sam is so cool and humble. His kids need to know there was a time in DH world cup racing that most racers refer to as the "Sam Hill era". Just look at the old Dirt Magazine famous 1:04 test track. Minnaar's (The GOAT) best time was 1:02. Sam showed up, only took three runs and posted a time 57.80 seconds. Absolute legend.

JimEG Added a comment about feature Marginal Gains: There’s Nothing *Stock* About Stock Suspension

PUSH Industries has been building and tuning my suspension for close to 15 years on my trail bikes. Every single time the fork and or shock comes back "feeling" and performing better than stock. This has translated to more fun on the trail and faster times on the clock. In addition to the tuning, PUSH provides setting recommendations which is super helpful. I believe that not only is the valving work PUSH does improving performance but also and probably equally an attention to the small details with quality seals, grease and fluids. Custom tuned suspension has always been a high...

JimEG Added a comment about feature Shimano XT 12-Speed Long-Term Review

My clutch was totally dry, and notchy after a few months. There was no grease in there when I opened it up to service it. But no rust either like others have mentioned. I would check it even if it is new, to make sure it has grease or enough grease in there. Other than the dry clutch quirk, this is by far the smoothest shifting and best performing drivetrain from any manufacturer, ever. Well, at least in my 20 years of this sport. Shimano deserves a lot of credit for such a well refined system.

Do you thing it is worth lubing the clutch when new and before it's first ride to prevent the issue?

yes. well known issue apparently. lubed it and set it a bit looser than it came stock and no problems since. otherwise i love the drivetrain.

Had the same experience. 5 minute service. Use the correct clutch grease. Running smooth and fine. Curiously dry to start though. Makes me wonder if the correct or grease, enough grease or any grease was on the clutch to begin with.

"Pie Plates are overrated"..says the guy in PA. I lived in Colorado for 10yrs up until a little over a month ago. Plenty of hour or longer climbs starting out at 6000ft that wide range gears come in handy. It's no different than having 2-3 speeds up front as far as range and MUCH simpler

I guess for me I see it less as a “failure” and more of a maintenance routine that the user needs to be aware of. It’s pretty easy to remove the cover and inject slick honey (I have a grease gun for slick honey left over from my old Turner frames) around the clutch pivot, cycle it a few times with clutch disengaged and tension backed off, then put the cover back on and retension and turn clutch back on. I’m in dry SLC, UT and am a bike washer, so makes sense why mine seized according to your experiences...
