I tried to run/hike up Moto on one of our trips to Windrock last year, as I remember it was on an Enduro a couple of years back. I didn't make it very far up until there was a huge tree down, and I didn't feel like bushwacking to get around it and back on the trail. That trail is...

You're very entitled to your own opinion, but I didn't hear the same contradictions you did. I've re-listened multiple times this morning and I still can't hear it the way you have. I heard Markus say they knew they were facing tough times but weren't expecting the PE firm to get to a point where they aren't willing to inject cash. The Fire Sale was an effort to get through that specific period without having to ask for more cash. That failed and then they were told 'no more'. As for your previous point, it's not exactly clear to me...

I’ve been a long time listener to Downtime, as evidenced by my support in this thread, but the responses by other listeners in this thread have solidified my appreciation for the value it brings to our community. I’ll be supporting via Patreon as a result. I know, from listening, it’s been a tough year financially for Chris and the podcast...

" You are very privelaged to be in your position whether you work hard or not." Might be one of the wildest statements I've read in awhile, and that's before the spelling... --- Chris, keep it going! Get everyone's side of the story, make some money while you're at it, and let the audience decipher the message. You (and all the other podcasts out there) are the platform, we are the interpreters, whether some of those interpreters like it or not. On a cohesive note, I think we can all agree that anyone who knows even the basic details of...

Agreed. He’s great and I love the pod. I also really enjoy, weirdly, the Downtime goes downhill series. A bunch of amateur Middle Aged Brit’s racing downhill or enduro shouldn’t be that interesting to me… but somehow it is.

I’m a fan, but it’s a rough back to back with Matt Jones and the Fleecemann, I gotta say. Oof!

This was great! Crazy fast turnaround, too. Thanks for your timely thoughts on the Downtime Podcast, Jeff. To your point about Markus being at the helm when he alleges that "PE was overly focused on growth," I agree. As I was listening to your 9-minute response, I was thinking about Andreas Kolb, who was likely signed to the 2025 YT MOB sometime around September of 2024, well after Markus came back as CEO in February of 2024. Kolb must have been a HUGE contract and represents YT choosing to double down on their DH and Enduro teams, especially given the...

Sorry. No spirits. Just beer/wine. And it was free. So licensing issues were probably minimal. Want to guess the wine? Decoy (which while not crazy expensive also isn’t crazy cheap).

You could go rent/demo bikes for free from the Mills. Then you could order a bike from YT if you decided to buy. They also carried all the YT apparel and such for purchase at the store. They also served as a social hub for parties with a bar, espresso machine, etc…

Good catch. My notes had it right, my frazzled podcast brain had it wrong. San Clemente opened around 2019 Guilford UK late 2020 Bentonville Mill was announced in 2023, opened in 2024

I believe Jeff's timeline is off on the opening of the Mills. The Bentonville Mill didn't officially open until 2024 (though it had been operating for a bit in the prior year). I think on the podcast, he puts it at 2021. I'm unsure on the other Mill location dates, though.

VERY rough notes from the insta Q&A Markus says yt usa will comeback, claims yt usa was completely independent and not effected by insolvancy - they purchased bikes from company at cost of goods and sold them. He says they ran into their own problems "why did he sell, will he sell again?" After 12 years of hustle he sold in 2020 to get something out of it. Unsure if he’d sell company again, “sees raw diamond in front of him, wants to develop brand but can’t promise he wouldn’t sell again, but says not his plan or intention to...

I would guess that YT USA sold THEIR inventory to Jenson without his approval, so he's not keen on honoring that warranty, since he didn't bless the deal. Just speculation, though.

I had the same guy call me out as "venting my frustration" because I said Markus kept his suffering to a minimum.. So, now Markus bought it back at a low price, how long before he sells again?

No doubt. Some German is going back and forth with Jimmy and calling him egocentric and narcisstic for, as an ex-employee, not considering the "other" side of the story (Flossman's). Dude... Jimmy wasn't some mechanic or floor worker at a YT Mill. He was the director of marketing and athlete manager for YT USA. I'm pretty sure he understands Markus's...

I'm definitely under no illusion that my contusion was the same as Bruni's. I will say that I did experience the feeling of being able to ride without too much pain for 30 minuts or so after the crash and then things completely seizing up (mine wasn't in my leg) and being off the bike for quite a while once...
