Slow retraction is a solid indicator of a fluid restriction. That can be from a deformed brake line or foreign object(s) blocking ports. Assuming you lubed the caliper pistons externally, I would not think of that as a leak but residual lube. barring a deformed brake line I would ping Sram tech support at this point. I think we can...

As a Milwaukeean I can tell you Mequon isn't as rural as you think. Hayes was maybe a 20+min drive from downtown Milwaukee. From what I've heard, a bulk of the cuts were made on the power side of the business. That said, I do wonder about their future. Brakes have been doing well-ish, but Reynolds/Sun/and Manitou goods have been...

If they are pumping up on rapid pulls but work consistently otherwise, as a general rule, it could be due to 2 different causes. 1. If the pumping up is taking you from an excessively long lever throw to a normal one, that is usually due to a poorly maintained brake that is low on fluid and/or has excessively worn pads, and/or has stick caliper pistons. Basically, the system is at a point where a single lever pull can barely generate enough fluid volume to activate the brake fully, so you need to "stack" multiple pulls on top of each...

Purty much nailed that answer. Only thing I would add is work from simplest to hardest remedy. It does sound like you have excessive seal roll at the caliper to me. Given it's known that Mavens need the pistons cycled in and out a few times to develop the proper amount of piston slip, I would work that process a...
You know, when the Mavens first came out and all reviews were blabbing about the piston massage thing I thought that's not a great way to introduce a new brake to the world. It invites a healthy amount of insanity, with some folx who may not read the full instructions doing the job half right and getting half right results...

X-Fusion, nonexistent support in the US. Got a Trace 36, it felt sticky as all get out so I dropped the lowers. They were bone dry, even the oil wipers. NBD, I can handle that, and they're far and away not the only co with this kind of assembly issue. In process, I knarfed up the rebound knob. Mea Culpa...

Lessee, Mid-August, Taichung Bike Week is a bit over a month away, and the industry is still swimming in inventory. My bet is there are new goods waiting for stock levels to taper before release and some of the new bits will be showing up next month. No intel to justify my theory, but it would follow a pattern from...

I think we may have to admit some possibilities about the group on this thread. Either: 1. We are all no longer well connected enough to score inside info. 2. The industry is in a slump and not developing product at the same speed as the previous few years Considering the lack of new product that came out of crank works I would suggest the latter but who knows. Until we get some new rumors we can either talk tech or make rumors up. Speaking of which I have one to start: Norco bikes have a relatively low resale value...

Making a tire is a helluva balancing act. If you want the utmost traction, drag is gonna be more pronounced and vice versa if you want the least amount of rolling resistance. Traction and rolling resistance are intrinsically intertwined. I've noticed it on road tires where super grippy tires that provide corner lean so deep you knock a pedal on...

1. An application that could use the hell outta this is fat bike tires. Likely a minority in this thread, but getting a bigger, floatier contact patch without having to drop to low single digits would be a helluvalot of fun, what with making a zippier experience on snow or beach days. 2. Getting a casing that damps out vibration...

Have run lots of ski demos....that 20% that want to tell you how everything is wrong will also take up 90% of your time.

Having run plenty of demo days I'd say it's about 30% just having a go on an expensive bike for free, 20% just telling you what is wrong with the bike, 20% "just confirming that my bike IS better", 20% "I'm thinking of replacing my 2011 bike in the next 3-5 years" , 9% having one of the bikes on a shortlist but "I'm going to buy whatever I get the best deal on" and 1% actually going on to buy something from the demo. A couple a year was more than enough to never want to do it again.

As a person who HATES marketing but had to work in it for a while as an advertising filmmaker (I made commercials and short form video; I loved telling stories) and currently does not work anywhere near the marketing world: Cutting marketing budget during a slowdown is very often a bad choice. Marketing doesn't have to be commercials. It's whatever your company does with the intention of making your target market feel more favorable about your brand. So much of selling a product is about being the brand/offering a product that is recognized and trusted by your potential customers as...

Half assed answer: It depends. I am a fan of what Manitou has been putting out the last decade or so and will default to at least their forks on a new build (frame up or complete). Same for Shimano mechanical drivetrains. Other components I am not as brand loyal. If it fits and works as intended I may buy...
Orgs and semis bed in quicker because they require less heat cycles (i.e. braking events) to do so as the material is softer and deposits into the brake track quicker. I've no issue with either in daily driver/city use, but from a performance standpoint sintered provides better consistent friction across all possible conditions and temps when bedded in properly. Key...
Full sintered pads have a higher coefficient of friction, generally, and that's the case with the Shimano N04C units. Obviously they come with a couple drawbacks (noise in cool/wet and possible rattling, more heat transfer, longer bed in time) but they require less lever force to get to work. You can also use a thicker rotor to help with heat...

HEY!HEY!HEY!HEY!HEY!HEY! There's NO reason for name callin'. Don't make me sic the mods on ya. Glad to help. PVD has some good insights and has put in some mighty smart work on his frame jigs. Shame his opinion of himself gets in the way a good bit more than is healthy.
