I am another one who swears by inserts on my Spire with DD casing. I would say I slightly prefer the ride quality without, but the insurance policy is well worth it. I have broken no WAO Unions running cushcore in four years I have had the set, and broke one on the one day I took it out. My second wheel I rebuilt myself terribly and am constantly retensioning and yet Ive not broke it yet. I have broken like five I9 axles in that time too. My experience, as well as my general ability to envision direct impact...

Imo the insert gives puncture protection by distributing the point force, what would be a tear turns into a pinch. Also DH tires rebound so slow! For fast poppy progressive trail bike I want progressive fast rebounding tires.

Rimpact Pro and Rimpact Pro Race! Helps to dull the impact so hardly any work needs on wheels anymore. My life is soooooo much easier with inserts than without them!
In my opinion, no. Reducing stroke will bring the front end lower, increasing some very important geometry, the least of which is head tube angle. This may affect how the bike handles at speed. And changing to a smaller diameter fork may increase flex in the front end, or if the frame is too stiff, put more load into the smaller fork and change its performance characteristics (stiction, binding).

I use their Phone Pocket accessory for my two USWE packs. Since its detachable, I can use it on days I’m riding pack less to keep it safe and clean.

Ok, so the gap between Asa and Ronan (71ms) is less than the average speed of a human blink (100ms). Or 0.03565% of the total run time. In racing terms, setting aside line choice, braking, exit speed etc., can the difference be something as simple as head/body position during the faster sections? an extra quarter turn of a crank? Level of whippage on the bug jumps? I am always blown away by how tight the top guys are to each other when there are an almost infinite amount of variables at play during a race run.

I am sooo impressed with Sam Hill, honestly thought it was more of a media stunt for him to be there. Eating my hat, that man is STILL one bad ass rider!

To be clear... I fully agree the huge gap jumps are very dangerous, sketchy, etc. That is what is scaring the riders. Not the difficulty of the course or even all but maybe that one drop. Bernard said as much in his video the other day--implying the course was easy except for the huge gaps. "It's easier than last year, It's a race course with huge jumps on it". I have no issues with riders spending time getting towed into the huge dangerous gaps, etc. What I'm saying is that the rest of the course becomes 'easy' for the worlds...

Do I understand this that you only measured something that was 10 seconds long? if so it wouldn't say anything, of you'd do 3min then that's another thing. Secondly the difference in pressures are enourmous and 18-20psi doesn't seem valid for any racing if your're above 65kg. Why not something reasonable like 3psi lower which is still a lot for...

I had zero stack headsets for years and years and still have a pile of them in my bike bin, but I've been on IS on my Santa Cruz bikes for the last 5 years. I've never had a problem with an IS headset so far, but they scare the hell out of me and given the choice I'd take a press-in ZS headset 7 days a week. First, it seems to me the IS headset requires waaaaaay higher manufacturing tolerances. Again, I've never had a problem with this on my Santa Cruz CC frames (disclaimer: SCB sponsored rider), but...

Whatever standard allows me to use angle adjustable headsets if I ever wanted to. That's the standard I would want. Otherwise, I never think about my headsets.

Jason, this was just fantastic. Thank you for this granular look at suspension curves and air springs. Would love more of a "so what" at the end so we can start thinking about how this applies to bikes other than the SJ.
