4/25/2024 4:04am because it normalizes overall brake performance with regards to varying pad compound. its no secret that a good brake system can be hindered by mediocre pads and that you can improve performance of otherwise meh brakes with better pads. i agree that there is value in testing brakes wholistically as people will buy them (including OEM pads & rotors as you mentioned), or a bike that they are spec'd on. however the kind of bike nerd that's reviewing a table comparing peak brake forces and deceleration times is also the kind that is more likely to not replace their pads...

4/23/2024 11:54am The Sinter Pads are actually organic but from the company named sinter whose lab they used. The pads are simply not available for the Mavens and the TRP... at least that's what the test says.

1/22/2024 8:54am It’s curious how Greg (Norco, really) and Neko are saying completely different things. Neko spends two years developing a race bike and concludes you can’t adjust anything independently, every change will affect something else. And complexity breeds its own challenges with marginal performance improvement. Norco heads in the exact opposite direction, highly complex suspension with claims of independent adjustability. Making those changes in isolation would be so time consuming. To slacken the head angle and keep bb height the same you’ve have to switch out flip chips for both. Changing HA alters your front center, unless you move the BB...

1/11/2024 1:47am If you really go into the niche market, there are so many more brands still. For example: https://www.arbr.bike/ https://cdurobikes.com/ https://www.crossworx-cycles.com/ https://aper-bikes.com/ https://alutech-cycles.com/ https://www.actofive.com/ https://www.fracebike.de/ https://berriabikes.com/en/ https://superiorbikes.com/ https://www.sciu-bikes.com/ https://www.cavalerie-bikes.com/fr/ https://antidotebikes.com/

7/27/2022 12:56pm I will say, of the dozen or so Yetis I’ve worked on (it’s a small sample size for sure, they seem to prefer the dealer) 10 have required full slider replacement, to the tune of $400ish bucks if I remember. That was over the span of a couple years, but none of the bikes were more than 2 years old. All the caveats apply, Where, how often, is any maintenance done, etc. I find most Horst link, faux bar bikes are good for 2-4 before they need bearings swapped, full kit for a Sentinel, $130Can last time I ordered

11/2/2021 10:42am Didn't you have pedal strikes all the time in the low setting? 30mm BB drop seems a bit too much for a 27.5 150ish mm frame.

9/14/2021 4:25am It's not a question of the chainring rotates or not. The question is if you're traveling fast enough to roll out the rear wheel faster than the chain pulling on the freewheel. The only way to eliminate pedal kickback would be to enable the chainring to rotate backwards so when the chain pulls on it, it can rotate but the cranks don't. But that would make pedalling a bit of an issue.

2/4/2018 7:52am That's not true actually. The frame is the Ican P9 that has been around for a while now. Ican is a chinese OEM manufacturer and Shred aswell as Evolve just buy their frames and put stickers on them. Which is not bad at all because with these brands the frames are warrentied, promoted etc. It's just not that they did the design behind it. Have a look here: http://www.icanbikes.com/html/MTB/27_5ER_frame/338.html

6/7/2017 2:18pm 29ers weren't fastest in the 2nd section because Gwin is the the master of rough and fast. I think in general there is a slight advantage because its more about keeping momentum rather than accelerating

Do you have a build log anywhere? This looks like it's a home made carbon fibre frame, i'd love to hear about the manufacturing process. I'd also love to hear about the design process if you have any details.
