3/29/2019 9:00am just put up florian's bike from tasmania https://www.vitalmtb.com/photos/features/Whats-Stock-Whats-Not-Tasmania… he's full DH casing because he likes the feel. it's been mentioned numerous times by plenty of riders, but the damping and feel of heavier tires or setups w/ inserts seems to be embraced for performance. just like you're saying lee, weight is not an issue for serious competitors in these gravity disciplines. grip and momentum is what counts. i've been on some lighter-casing tires lately and i really dislike rocky sections as they feel like balloons or beach balls getting bounced around. they're fun going up, but not worth the trade-off...

3/29/2019 9:00am Maybe if there were a track that required constant accelerations the added weight might be detrimental, but that doesn't really describe a modern DH track. The same could be said about 29 inch wheels, but the fact that almost everyone has made the move to the bigger wheels suggests more of a premium on maintaining and gaining speed, and a heavy tire while being more difficult to accelerate is also going to hold that momentum once up to pace (much like a 29 inch wheel). I believe it was Graves who mentioned this at Worlds in South Africa a few...

3/28/2019 10:51am more material to disperse heat and better thermal properties. Also, no riveted union with the center section that has terrible heat transfer.

3/10/2019 10:39pm there are NDT (non-destructive tests - thermography, ultrasonics, x-rays etc)) for that. No need to take the frame up to breaking point. and remember, if the frame is cracked in a highly stressed early, the breaking point is likely to be much lower than the design breaking strength. Why test to failure if it could be repaired.

my thoughts exactly on soft + fast rebound. i think we asked Bryson of DVO about most common suspension set-up mistakes, and he said rebound was too slow for most riders. https://www.vitalmtb.com/features/Vital-MTBs-The-Inside-Line-Podcast-Ep… - you'll see in the RAW tomorrow that gee and the bike look pretty freaking dialed where he's riding.

3/6/2019 8:34am This would be great if it were for para-athletes who would benefit from electric motor assisted mountain bikes. But it's not, so it sucks.

3/3/2019 10:03am i wouldn't get too excited about graphene: they haven't yet found a commercially sustainable way of producing long chains of the stuff, much less fabrics of it. In industry, it's typically in short length form, and mixed in with other components. Given it's highly planar nature, it's strength will be in only one plane, and almost no strength and flexibility...

3/2/2019 9:52am quite possible. But worth looking at some typical strength numbers: [i]One can observe that the tensile strength of the flax yarns (72±7 MPa) is significantly higher than the one of the hemp yarns (45±5 MPa) and this for equivalent yarn fineness and torque values. A ratio of 1.6 is observed. This is due to the fact that more ligneous residues...

3/2/2019 8:53am I wonder how far that statement by EnE regarding the use of flax composites in non-structural applications, extends to structural aspects of a bicycle, especially an MTB. And it costs more than CF. Ouch. like we need to pay more for bicycles as it is.
