Hell yeah Joe, that's what's up! I have several people in my life that have regained their outdoor freedoms because of e-bikes and I think that's awesome.

I am 78 this year and after 13 surgeries from a climbing incident now have a blue permanent hang tag for the rear view mirror. I can still do almost everything I formerly did but am restricted to the length of time and distance and exertion it takes to do it. I have been avid at MTB since Gary Fisher days. Now I use a CLASS-ONE eMTB to be able to continue enjoying my outdoor life like I did for many years before. In many ways it has saved my life. I am not at all ashamed of owning and...

Hey Stik, I doubt you remember who I am or recall that we have been on the same side of this bike stuff for a few years now. I've always held you in regard as "one of the good guys." Regardless, I gotta say I am pretty let down by your reaction here. Personal insults aside, let's unpack this a bit. The image: editorial chose that image not for the e-bike guy, but the hammering pro. That's Josh Carlson, a well-known e-bike advocate. It's ironic and it's funny from that standpoint. Word choice: As you noted, I am a product...

This piece was originally written in the spring of 2019, inspired by a press camp from the summer of 2018. It was never published. In light of the recent land access that was granted for e-bikes in...

Seems to me that the whole thing will always be debated, and that's the end of the story. There will ever be consensus, and that's fine. Just because there are cranks, some people will believe ebikes are mountian bikes. Some people, on the other hand, believe any addition of power will make it a motorcycle. Do there have to be pegs for people to really believe they are different? Of course they are different. But I think the focus should be on the purpose. The author seems to rather sit on a thumb tack and climb for hours than rocket...

Hey Beez177- I run this program at Kona and I can tell you that I don’t care if you have 10,000 followers or 10. Social media participation is not required whatsoever. I also don’t care if you’re a super hardcore rider or not. There are so many awesome people that can represent a brand that don’t need to be pro-level riders. We are looking for ambition, good attitudes, and people that want to work with us and other ambassadors to craft some unique projects and help lift up their local cycling communities.

Not sure who you are asking the question to or if anybody in particular. For me, the tipping point of an e-bike becoming a motorcycle is the inclusion of a throttle and the absence of it being pedal assist. Class 1 e-bikes (the one in contention for most people) won't go unless pedaled. Stop pedaling, the power cuts off. A motorcycle is 1,000 more fun in that you just twist that wrist and go!

My second paragraph: I compared cyclocross bikes and mountain bikes to drive home the point that I am not discounting e-bikes as a form of bicycle. Just like I compared telemarking and traditional downhill skiing. They are all bikes, they are all skis, they are just different forms of them. I never said e-bikes should have limited access, rather it is a complicated issue. What I said is that everybody is entitled to have fun however they want. The question that I have, to your point of land access and teaching new user groups about trail etiquette is this: Who...

Your article was enlightening. I have been struggling to understand the antipathy towards e-bikes and I think you've highlighted it - culture. There would appear to be a feeling that e-bikes don't fit an idealized notion of mountain bike culture and might bring people to the trails who aren't like “us" - who might drive a Porsche and not know who Steve Peat is. While I'm not excited for the trails to be more crowded either, living in the US, I think I've had my fill of culture wars and political tribalism the last few years and would rather at...

Tanner Stephens goes on a ten-day road trip through Montana, Idaho, and Wyoming. The weather played games, we drove lots, rode with friends, went to a rodeo, drank coffee, slept in some questionable places, got to witness an extreme enduro, destroyed my stomach (and bathrooms) with pizza. When we left, we had the feeling that we need to go back. Go to Deitycomponents.com to see the full range of products.

Well said! Like I said in my opinion, I'm not coming down on anyone that chooses to have fun in a different way. I don't hate on roadies, cyclocross riders, or any other subset of two-wheel fun. You're having a good time and I say good for you. I will be really interested to see if your prediction comes true...

It sounds like we agree on pretty much everything here. We both feel that eMTB's are not as fun as regular MTB's. You own one but don't ride it very often. People should be allowed to have fun in whatever way they want and so on. *high-five* The only comparisons I made were to other forms of bicycle or snow sports. I never said eMTB's weren't real bikes, I just said they are different bikes.

Got the chance to demo a C2 early as part of a shop crew a few months ago. I normally ride a L but I was on an XL as it was the last free bike. I can honestly say it felt fantastic even though it didnt "fit" me on paper. Climbing was susprisingly quick for a 160/150 29r and although I didnt get to ride anything chunky I have no doubt it would handle it well. Pretty awesome bike!

This event is the most brutal on the planet for your brain and body. The nerves would kill the average man, but we love it. It didn't go the way we hoped, and I crashed on both runs. I'll be back next year trying to win this thing again! Thanks for watching!
