I think the power down into a big hole test was most relevant to my riding style

BIG shout out to Boris, Sven, and Dan, and all world cup/ews photographers for that matter. The coverage you guys provide every race is phenomenal... From the photos (and editing), to the interviews, to being out there through thick and thin, you guys are the heros of mountain bike racing. There's a lot of people that don't get enough credit for doing what they do for racers and the world cup, but I have to tip my hat to the photographers that not only inspire me, but make mountain biking the best sport with the best coverage in the world...

I absolutely believe that, absent shipping errors, careless unboxing, etc., it's possible to ship a bike that needs no skilled adjustment. All I'm saying is I haven't seen it yet, and all the other experiences I've had with boxed bikes make me skeptical. The last time I assembled a YT, it was no better--and no worse, to be fair--than the bikes I've assembled from other companies. I'd love to unbox a Canyon myself for comparison.

I'm unconvinced. I've unboxed many bikes from many large manufacturers, and I've never found one that can be properly built up & adjusted in ten minutes. Derailleur hangers are rarely straight; cable tension usually needs to be dialed in; brakes often need alignment, piston resets, or even bleeds; rotors are often out of true; hubs are frequently tighter than ideal; headsets aren't adjusted well... etc. I've seen all of these on bikes from old-school dealer-sales manufacturers; I've seen the same problems on bikes from direct-to-consumer companies. Maybe Canyon has perfected their build procedures so that none of these are issues...

I highly recommend taking the rim & valve to your local bike shop (if you have one) for advice, because figuring out exactly what's wrong here is difficult without being able to see/feel things. And there are two smooth sections on the valve, so I'm not entirely sure which one you're referring to. That said, a couple possibilities and ideas...

SDGiant Contellis Switch? Those internals look pretty familiar. Which is fine--my Giant post has been uber-reliable--but these dropper post press releases are all starting to seem a little hyperbolic when half of them are rebranded or mechanically identical systems.

Spomer, you've gotta get Joe on The Inside Line. He knows more about the early history of mountain biking and cycling in general than anyone else I've ever met. Plus he's gone from pioneering downhill racer to framebuilder to company owner to overseeing a bicycling museum and the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame. Been loving the interviews with all the...

They've also become the dominant component sponsor in top-level road cycling (at least on the men's side) in the last couple of years. From CyclingNews:"Of the 18 WorldTour teams, 14 use Shimano drivetrain components either fully or partly..." Maybe that push is partly responsible for cutbacks on the mountain biking side.
