Problems installing Tubeless Valves. What am I doing wrong?

Hi, I wanted to convert to tubeless but ran into problems with installing the valves. Rims are the Roval Traverse and valves are the Roval Control. The lower part of the valve (smooth, without thread) does not fit through the rim hole. The rim hole cannot be sealed by the valve's O-ring, as the valve cannot be completely inserted through the hole. Here is a picture of the valve: https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1342/0697/products/30015-1053_WHL_MY1…

According to Google research and the Roval website, the valves should be the right ones. Anybody have any idea what might be the problem here? Is there a trick or what am I missing? Any ideas?

I thought installing the valves would be the easiest part of going tubeless Smile

I highly recommend taking the rim & valve to your local bike shop (if you have one) for advice, because figuring out exactly what's wrong here is difficult without being able to see/feel things. And there are two smooth sections on the valve, so I'm not entirely sure which one you're referring to. That said, a couple possibilities and ideas: Did you tape the rim yourself? If so, perhaps you need to cut away slightly more tape at the valve hole to allow the valve to seat. Have you tried any other valves? Maybe a different set would fit better; I've found the basic Stan's valves to work pretty much every time. It's possible that the drilling in the rim is imperfect, and if you feel confident doing so, you might choose to carefully enlarge the hole with a round file.
Hope some of this is helpful. But, again, you're probably going to get better answers from somebody who can assess the situation in person.

Thanks for your answer. My local bike shop is a quite a bit away so I was trying to figure out some things first, but checking with she shop is what I will do probably. Sorry for being unspecific about the valve, I was referring to the bottom smooth part which holds the o-ring. The last part of the valve can't be inserted through the rim hole. The tape was installed by the dealer and its a Specialized 2Bliss with a precut hole. Since the valves are the reccommended ones by the rim manufacturer I really didn't expect any problems here. Guess I don't have much choice other then having my local dealer check it.

Thanks for your help!

I had just this problem the other day at work. It turns out that those Roval valves come in two different sizes for different sized Roval rim holes. Turns out it's not just square pegs that don't fit in round holes. Oversized round pegs won't fit either.

Thanks Big Bird for your message and the info about the two different sizes. I will take the rim to the dealer from who I bought the bike and let him check which valves fit best. That way he can see for himself, that he gave me the wrong valves. Thanks for your feedback guys.
