11/4/2024 10:32am Not much you can do. I had the carbon version and I felt like the design was such that you could either set it up / tune it to be a bit poppier at the expense of support & comfort on chunk, or turn it into a plow that is a bitch to get into the air or throw around...

11/3/2024 5:19pm If you literally cannot lock up your brakes then your rotors and/or pads are most likely contaminated. My second guess is they need a bleed and they're simply not getting enough power. Galfer Greens have a very aggressive bite and don't require much, if any, bed in. Like, 1-2 stops in my experience. Try cleaning the rotors with isopropyl alcohol...

11/1/2024 11:03am https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RG4H1Ajcqao I tried every method I found and this worked best so far. The bite point still moves a bit for the first two lever pulls after the bike sits for a longer period of time. But it stays consistent while riding. I obviously used the correct fluid and only replicated the process.

11/1/2024 8:27am I'm sorry, but all of their issues do make them sound exactly like rubes. Managing to pop out a piston while doing piston massage? If you're doing what you're supposed to (leave pads in, insert thin side of pad spacer, advance pistons until pads hit the spacer, hold, flip the pad spacer to use thick side to force them back...

10/31/2024 11:14am Being I'm sick (and bored) I wanted to add a few more thoughts. 1) Anyone looking for raw data, its already been done and the link is posted here. Zee Germans live up to the stereotype and absolutely crushed it if you care about being completely quantitative with respect to a brake test. 2) The real reason I read reviews on Vital is because guys like Jason are legitimately fast, ask a lot out of their equipment and frankly have great taste. Its like reading a review of a restaurant from a food critic you jive with. While adding some...

10/30/2024 1:09pm Does this effectively shorten the pad rollback then? I'm legitimately curious because I asked about doing this very thing on the "Nerding out on brakes shall we?" forum thread, and was told not to do it. My thinking was I might do it on the rear brake in lieu of moving the contact adjuster outwards to match feel with the front brake. When I owned Maguras, I used to do a top bleed on the rear brake (no bleed block in the rear), then with the syringe attached, pull the lever 1-2 times to overfill the rear brake's system volume...

10/30/2024 1:04pm It’s essentially a method to overfill the master cyclinder slightly to create a shorter lever throw. Turning towards the “IN” arrow expands the volume of the master cylinder slightly. When the bleed procedure is complete, turning the pad contact back the opposite direction sort of pressurizes the line and advances the pistons sooner than if the system was bled at its lowest volume. I’ve done this with Codes for years and have found it to be beneficial on Mavens as well.

10/30/2024 1:04pm For me personally, Ive been on sram brakes for most of my life and they are the most familiar. Also, because of the pad contact adjustment I feel like I can get the lever to stop exactly where I want it to. Certainly a preference thing for anyone, but for me they are exactly what I like brakes to feel like when setup properly.

10/30/2024 1:03pm No this test was supported by Feedback Sports and Ride Wrap. BrakeAce also generously loaned us two sets of sensors. Each brand did provide brakes FOC. They were given the same testing parameters and product asks. No brakes were bled by the brand. They arrived in a box the same as any rider recieves them. No one got a special treatment. Our goals/angles we focused on for this test: testing brakes in Whistler because the trails are proper and relatable/familiar to many riders. 2.) Test an entry-level brake against premium options. 3.) Compare/test staple brakes like XTR and Code. 4.)...

10/30/2024 1:03pm Interesting to hear about TRP opting out. Having owned most of these brakes (except the Shimanos, and have ridden those), I feel like a few of the brands do themselves a disservice with what brake kits they send out to reviewers for testing. The MT7s with HC3 levers look fancy and have lots of adjustments, but they lack leverage compared to their longer HCW aka Bruni lever. I owned the HC3 version but have ridden the HCW, and that dramatically reduces the lever resistance (increased leverage). Hayes sends out T4s which as you noted lack the tool-free reach adjust which...

10/29/2024 4:27pm I am wondering whether a step from your SRAM bleeds is different than the official procedure due to wording, or deliberately different. In the "Prepare the Lever" section, they say you should wind the contact adjust all the way out (opposite of the "IN" arrow direction). Your bleed process makes it sound like you did the opposite. Can you elaborate? https://docs.sram.com/en-US/publications/1zPBXB1BWfF7E1mLreIuVi/UM%20-%…

10/29/2024 6:51am I don't keep track but my gut says a little bit less, mostly because bikes and parts have gotten so good, I feel a lot less tempted to upgrade. That said, I just did get new brakes for both my bikes. But I mean, a lot of other stuff just lasts longer... Conti tires last about 3x as long as...

10/29/2024 6:44am That makes no sense at all. That said, I suspect that Fazua will have the updated 480 batteries available and who knows, maybe some motor updates, that will drop in to an already perfectly dialed chassis.

10/28/2024 9:45am I'd say the noise of the purples is in between Hayes black and copper - maybe a bit noisier than the blacks but a lot less than the copper. They're not instant bed-in like the greens, but do bed in pretty quick. I ordered 6 sets of the purple from EU for me and a buddy who also has Hayes...

10/28/2024 8:54am When I ran Hayes, I preferred the blacks to the copper pads. The copper was noisier and seemed to glaze easier, but lasted longer. The organic felt like they had a bit sharper bite and better modulation plus were quieter, but wore out faster. On my ebike I ran black front, copper rear, and on my pedal bike ran black/black...

10/28/2024 8:46am It was a couple years back. They didn't creak, but the ramp teeth had worn down to nubs and shift quality had deteriorated dramatically. The drivetrain was setup by a shop, so theoretically it was installed correctly. Shimano warrantied both of them then I sold the system to go bleep bloop.
