Akula Added a comment about feature Vital's B Practice Podcast - Leogang World Cup Downhill
6/17/2022 2:04am The company that run the timing infrastructure at World Cups is Chronorace. Hired by UCI and RBTV since 2014/15 to provide accurate timing with 20 + splits on track, something Tissot apparently said they couldn't do. The timing infrastructure for timed training, qualis and racing is the same. It's live. The RBTV feed on race days is delayed by anywhere from 30 secs to 1 minute to help facilitate live graphic construction for the TV show using the timing infrastructure. The live timing you see on the UCI site is made using the start-wand as primary start timer, the riders...

6/17/2022 1:33am @Akula One thing I'd love clarified on split timers on mountain is if they are synced with the wand/photocell tripped at the start hut (the mark during the 5 second countdown when they actually trip the gate sensor) or the split timers synced up with the riders Published Start Time of say 1:01:00 pm ? I would assume that if hard wired they would mesh to the actual start sensor/trigger/wand photocell since any course hold would be disaster for splits.

6/16/2022 2:41am You are correct about some of your assumptions regarding timing at World Cups, incorrect about others. If you want to know how it all actually works just drop me a message.

Akula Added a reply to UCI DH Rule Unclear - DSQ for Riding Over a Course-Marking Pole?
10/30/2020 11:37pm You guys can't read a rule book! ;-) Rule states "rider" not bike (Finn..... it's ambiguous for a reason. Because somewhere in the wide world there's a keyboard warrior who moonlights as a UCI commissaire ready to DSQ all who breath. :-)

10/22/2020 7:40am Part 4.1.035 of the rule book was changed for the 2019 release to actually mention course markers and that it can result in a DSQ. I recall 2018 had quite a few instances were this rule needed to be more clear: a) some commented that riders should merit a time penalty but not a DSQ (perhaps due to short unintentional adventures outside the course markers), b) it has to be defined how one actually exits a course and where a rider might be deemed to return fairly, as there were also notable incidents in 2018 where this needed to also...

10/20/2020 12:42am I don't understand why people think being in the air or on the ground makes a difference for going out of the course, nothing in the rules states or suggests this matters. Same with the people considering "advantage" gained or not. That is in the old rule and was too vague so they amended it to the current one which states you have to enter between the "markers" you exited between. Current Rules - UCI MTB General Rules Sections Rule 4.1.035: "If a rider exits the course for any reason, he/she must return to the course between the same two...

4/27/2020 7:34am Very true, none of our Reactor models would be considered "extreme" or win a game of Top Trumps. However we put a lot of of effort into the engineering, R&D and testing to ensure they perform for riders in the real world on the trail. So far most riders, racers and media seem to enjoyed riding them (check Vitals review the other week). But happy to accept that they may not be for everyone- the beauty of the bike industry is there are a lot of brands to choose from.

As a picky bastard, I’ll say to have a look at that again. In unsupported corners, or where the turn is longer, he drops the outside foot. That’s about the only time it looks like his hips are outside too. He’s otherwise really lined up feet to head, level pedals like you say. All edging, no hedging. F’in amazing riding.

3/13/2019 7:51am Hello, We can't blame UCI for that, because they asked us to provide them video from Loic BRUNI, and because of traveling and testing a lot currently, we were late and missed to do it. They consider DH as good as the other Cycling sports, don't be afraid...They did the job. We as a Team were not good. Thanks for supporting DH, and sorry for having been slow and not efficient. And YES, we are fuck..g happy to be part of this huge event. It will be a great show, and good moment to celebrate with all the riders...

Sorry. I wasn't solely replying to you. There was a comment below yours which mentioned money. All the info you have copied and pasted I am well aware of and is available in the documents I linked. Likewise the hosting costs for staff and the like for a uci world cup is simialr to how ews organise their "system" also. Likewise there are quite a lot less uci officials at world cups than you may think. It's actually Red Bull Media house with 68+ staff that burden the most. But they look after themselves. Your arguments that ews is still...

The EWS already has a rulebook of its own. The rules and regulations in place for enduro from the UCI are very elementary. I fully expect the UCI to embrace how the EWS is sanctioning enduro as opposed to the other way around. However, there are very serious complexities in the sport that need to have some form of oversight from a world governing body. Foremost of which, is doping control. Next will be standardized training and certification for race officials (whether these will be called commissaires or not, who knows) all over the world. In addition, there has to...

Just because comments like the two above almost always go "unchecked" and "unchallenged" - you two guys clearly don't know as much as you think you know. Maybe if you attended all EWS and all UCI World cups you'd have a more informed opinion. Or if EWS's partnership with the UCI actually affected your livelihood etc...
