adamdigby Added a comment about feature Vital MTB Face Off: The Best Tire Insert Systems

6/15/2017 7:24am
These seem like good ideas, but at that price I need to know they will last for at least a solid season of aggressive trail or DH riding. Did you guys experience any failures (tearing, cracks, etc.) with the inserts or signs that they may fail in in the next few months?

The UCI has a rule that states a bicycle must have same size wheels. So they could run a 79 incher, but not a 29" front 27.5" rear. A UCI representative had an interview on here or Dirt saying they may look into changing the equal size wheel rule starting 2018. I'm interested to try anything, 29, 79, 69, even a 24 front 29 rear, why not!

That's the second time Gwin has been up and then crashed/stopped in the flat stuff at Fort William. Both times he landed on the podium, wild! You could see the difference braking early and cornering smooth arcs makes at the top during Gwin and Minnaars' runs. They made it look so much easier than the rest of the field.

If it's all about 'how fast they go' let's bring back skinsuits. Easily worth 2s on a track like Fort William...more if it's windy.

I am just going to go out there on a limb and say i hate that the term "playful" is an attribute bikes are measured by.

The problem is if you limit the wheel size you are then giving the advantage to the smaller and lighter riders who fit the 27.5 platform better. What is next limiting everyone to flat pedals because clips give you more power, everyone has to run 165mm cranks and 780mm bars with 2.4 tires? As Danny said if it is faster for a given rider they will run it, if not they won't. The biggest challenge is to keep the integrity of the tracks so they stay proper DH tracks, that will solve everything.

...and in said EWS 29" bikes are allowed. With no clear consensus as to what is faster. Don't forget that.

They were all scrambling. SC just got there first.

I decided to look the rule up myself after watching this video and that's when I found regulation 1.3.007 saying 12 months. I was surprised to see there is actually rule about the equipment like that and I wonder where the UCI draws the line. I'm pretty sure guys were racing on Pro-Core more than 12 months before it was...

For the people saying the fast guys could have qualified slow to start earlier, this is why they don't: UCI MTB Regulation 4.5.033 The start order for the final is determined on the basis of the reverse result of the qualifying round or seeding run (women juniors), the fastest rider starting last. The top 10 protected riders (as defined in art. 4.5.031) who were not classified in the top 10 places for women elite and the top 20 places for men elite of the qualifying round must start immediately before the top 10 women elite and the top 10 men...

Should "God" allow life to start knowing we will all one day die? From the sound of things no one knew exactly when the bad weather was going to start. Sucks for the top Elite Men qualifiers for sure, but rain could have started an hour earlier OR later. It is what it is. They are just going to have to want it that much more now, for the rest of the season, if they want a good result in the overall. Just my 2¢.

Where are people getting this 9 month to production rule from? I've read through the rule book and it say in Article 1.3.007 that products must be in production (meaning for sale to public, even it is only a single unit for sale) no later than 12 months after it's first day in competition. Shame about the race today, but...

not sure. if it's not in qualifying, i'd wager it won't be in finals b/c the system is in place. total guess though. the timing company has changed from years past (used to be tissot, now it's chronorace). top speed was always rad to see

I was about to comment about the top 23 Men being ranked same order through the speed trap, but it appears they are just giving an average speed down the track. Does anyone out there know if they will be having a speed trap this race?

adamdigby Added a reply to XL and XXL bikes in Downhill?

Being 6'4" I've never had the option to size up on bikes. I know that if an XXXL DH bike (yes, three X) was an option I would definitely be looking to buy. I agree with fast_bastard, Minnaar is clearly on a bike that is too short if he needs to run the buzzworks headset and a chainstay lengthening link...
