A week ago we set out to build whole new trail in one day, 500m(1500ft) vertical using few existing paths in the begining and in the end, but completely new in between. It doesnt have a single berm or any significant jump and the only digging was few bike lengths of rocky offcamber, rest was just removing small trees and bushes, cuting the grass and removing the lose rocks... Next morning one of the biggest local advocate of smoothen everything (ofc rides ebike) went to check it out and his comment was "some digging required to make this trail rideable!"...

I've been following Vital MTB (best media source in the game!) religiously since before it was Vital MTB back when I was 11 years old and this thread is the one that has prompted me to make an official account login so I can comment. I couldn't agree more with StudBeefpile - the wide, bermy flow trails that are popping up all over the US absolutely suck. There is a complete disconnect between the natural terrain and geography that once defined and dictated the course of trails. You could pick up many of these new age flow trails and place...

Nothing, a lot of trails are made by trail's bikes going up hill, not quite the same though..... We did try riding up some steeper trails when we hired them a couple years back, a decent drop was what turned us around! Gonna need squirel catchers at the top and bottom!

Around here it seems the only trail they are interested in climbing is the downhill trail. 🤦‍♂️ Think you've got e-bike problems now, wait till the electric SurRon motorcycle crowd shows up. 💩

With more and more powerful motors getting into ebikes, what's going to stop idiots from going uphill on gravity trails?

You are not getting "ripped off". You are just not shopping smart. There is a steep "covid tax" on used bikes right now, I'd look for a new/er bike with current geo and bigger wheels.

Man, we've got some first world problems eh. The classic example against the Modern Trail is the dumbing down of the shore right? I.e. Upper Dale's, Lower Digger. And it's hard not to agree after riding them, they're jarringly out of character. Much of the rest of the Shore though is fall-line to dead-stop-turn to fall-line, which sucks to ride...

Listen up Mr. Handsome Steak, I’m pretty sure I’ve told you at least a few times to pull the plug on that free market capitalist utopia, and move north to this socialist (read: communist) hell hole where our trails are so steep they are literally unsustainable, and our hands hurt from bombing down 1500 meter (read: a loooot of feet) descents. It’s horrible here, what I wouldn’t give for some breaking bumps and turns that aren’t classified as anti-berm. Also, totally agree with you.
