Yes watching a highlights reel or the condensed version will always be shorter. But for a live event, it was enjoyable. Last week's F1 race was nearly 6 hours long. You can watch a 30 minute highlight of the race. Just depends upon what sort of experience you want to have watching it.
4 hours on a Saturday might be tough to make happen for some. But 2:40 while it was on my third monitor while at work on a Thursday didn't leave me anything to complain about.
Dude a three hour broadcast is insane. It is crazy long. I think its a bit wild to say that pacing was a plus of the broadcast.

Kindly disagree, but I've always loved the long broadcasts. The average NFL broadcast is 3-3.5 hours, which feels too long to me because I'm not a fan so maybe the level of interest plays a role.
The women's event did seem to move faster, I think they had really good weather and not much wind. The judging also seemed more efficient. Tbf it has really bogged down in the past when every rider is taking the full window to wait for wind.
Here we go, the event is about to kick off! Start time has indeed been brought forward, let's hope the weather cooperates. Best of luck to all the riders!
The reality of mountain biking is that it happens in the mountains, and the mountains of Utah are notoriously shifty when it comes to weather. After a few incredible runs, including Godziek absolutely stomping his line for 90 points and the lead, and Jaxson Riddle finally delivering a run worthy of his potential, the event has gone on wind hold as the weather front we knew was on the way is hitting the venue. Thoughts go out to Carson Storch who had to be heli-lifted to hospital after crashing in his chute (and coming to a stop just a few meters short of what could have been a much much worse situation...). Couderc also crashed, under-rotating a front flip off a flat drop during what looked like a run that had serious podium potential, while Bienve went down under-rotating a sloooow 360 after nailing some seriously heavy moves up top. As always out here, coulda-woulda-shoulda weighs heavy on the mind, especially when it looks unlikely that anybody will get a second chance (if the first runs can even be completed).
How sick is this moto-style backflip variation by Jaxson???
A this point, the riders are hoping for a lull in the weather a the end of the afternoon, so nothing for it but to stay tuned at this point. Fingers crossed!
I hate to bash on the people that work hard to put this event on, but man it’s so annoying to see some wind (probably) cancel the event.
The riders and crews are already out here for weeks before. I think there should be a weather window where they can hold the final anytime in a 5-7 day period. WSL and FWT both do this, along with other outdoor focused sports. Idk man…
It is what it is. Axing the bloated live broadcast is the only way to save the event. Do a waiting period like surfing, film a production on the spot, cut a live premier show hours after the event. Would love to know what specific element of the broadcast requires them to run a single day event...
Simply no respect to the weather report. I'd reckon the riders would agree on pushing a day forward vs such a high risk of cancellation. How many years can we do the wind thing? Usually it's just a second run issue, and now we only got through half of first runs... Despite such a blatant weather report. Not a general wind forecast, just an outright huge storm.
Feel so bad for the riders/diggers. Poor Lemoine man...

The wind blowing up after Jacksons run is definitely gonna throw a spanner in the works
I feel for all the teams and athletes that put in so much work this week. What an incredibly difficult situation.
