I'm still using a basic canvas tote bag for everyday use. It is sometimes not quite big enough and I wind up grabbing a second tote/grocery bag A pal has been very happy with Thule Round Trip bag and I have come close to buying one several times. It looks well thought out and of decent quality.
My family live out of our Cat 5 bags. Yes it's designed more for road / tri but there's enough space for mountain bike gear with some judicious packing. Easy to visually check you have all of the vitals every time.
And when you have 3 of them they stack nicely in the trunk / truck bed....
I have the new 70l Thule bag, real good! Highly recommend. Motocross gear bags are worth looking into as well. They tend to be cheaper and bigger, but always cater for a fullface better than most mtb stuff.
I just throw clothes in an appropriately sized duffel, and use a clear, snap-latch Sterilite bin for bike parts / gear. Clear is nice so you can see where to find stuff. If I'm going to ride somewhere I expect mud, I might bring a second bag for stripping off dirty clothes into, and/or a couple of towels to protect the seats of my truck.
My regular bag is just a laundry bag. It’s ventilated. Unless it’s a wet day I literally just take off my pads throw em in the bag and take em out of the bag next time I ride. Been using it for sports equipment for 20 years.
For air travel I have a sensus backpack and like it. Can get all my gear plus some nicnacs in there and been able to carry it on. (I actually pack the laundry bag so I can use the backpack for regular use once I land).
I've been really happy with the Thule round trip bike gear bag. Space for all of my stuff and then some. I was using a tote bin, but this is easier to keep organized.
