as they should that was a WILD amount of drama for what is seen as a side event, without all the big names, nor the big production. it literally had all the drama these broadcasting companies seek. crashes, photo finishes, bar to bar racing, its a tighter package to produce and therefore relatively cheap to do.

4x > dual slalom or that weird dh4cross thing crankworx tried (hot take)

crazy part being he almost pulled another finish line upset in the final to get silver instead of bronze. after doing exactly that to make it through to the final. that was simply straight up good television.

Silver in the Not-Tomas Slavik category should be recognised in it's own right

Charlie having a hugey during the average rider review. I feel like his experience kinda validates the track pole discussion. Didn't even seem like he was caught out on the track, just legit accidentally going off track visually.

When is everyone going to drop the poles vs tape debate?

It's the same reason I can't watch 4X.
Someone wins & everyone else dumps it trying to get the turn before them.

I think you of all people should have been STOKED on the 4x champs racing. Watching Neko use excellent race craft to hang on to a wheel and then out power dudes at the end.

Sounds like you're not even giving it a chance tbh

I was there for Jared Graves, Mick Hannah, Wade Bootes & Chris Kovarik all taking the same turn at the same time.
4X is just MurderBike.  Like I said...halfway through the season, field of 64 goes from guys not qualifying to not enough guys to even field a full event.
By season end, half your heroes have broken scaphoids or snapped collarbones.
It's cool if you've never seen to watch the chaos once or twice.
But that event thins the herd down way too fast!

The 4 Man DH races they used to film by helicopter weren't much better. Only thing kept you from killing your opponent was that it was mainly on fire roads for easy viewing & wide enough "courses".

Yeah they should do something safer than 4x... Like... Downhill

That rag back on the bandwagon after crapping on Jack and Finn for not going to Canadian nationals?

Charlie having a hugey during the average rider review. I feel like his experience kinda validates the track pole discussion. Didn't even seem like he was caught out on the track, just legit accidentally going off track visually.

Maybe I am not getting something, but every time I watch one of Charlie's descents on World Cup or World Champs tracks, it's ”oh, it's not even the right bike and it's not even well prepared” and this time it feels kinda gratuitous, with the clickbaity title.

Well, how about being better prepared and riding the course on an actual worthy DH bike? I think it would be much more relevant to the people watching, even from the Average Joe perspective. Average Joes do have DH bikes and ride them. I don't mean to barge into Charlie's planning, but a DH bike can't be that hard to source. And I suspect this thing is popular enough to even have somebody support this with the proper bike.

It is because there is no lift service at that point after the races. There is an episode where he did hike a bike, not sure what bicycle it even was maybe DH, and he said 'yeah never doing this again'

They use e-bikes simply to climb the bill, in order to ride it. Maybe Reece can lend him that psycho 200/200 ebike he rides...

4X is DH, but w/ take outs as you weight the front end in less pads.

Thank you for the explanation. It makes all the sense in the world. Not hating on Charlie. I just didn't get it.

Cheers, buddy!

Maybe someone else mentioned it but Brosnan's chain seemed to come partially off in the start gate as he went to start his race run.

Another start gate mess for Canyon after Kiefer in Loudenvielle a few years back.

Coincidence?

Brosnan's chain was a weird one and I think it was a worst case scenario for him - it looked like he lost it completely at the start but after his crash he had to unjam it.. I wonder if it jumped off the back of the cassette, or under the cranks - either way it looked jammed.

B-Rad had to carry his rider's bike down to the start gate last week at Les Gets on some quagmire access trail from the drop off.
Can't imagine being a non-factory guy & trying to get in the gate with a clean, functioning tranny.
Heck, just pushing to the gate a single pebble could stick to your tire, plink onto your chain or cassette & just "wait" to go Murphy's Law.

Terrifying me with the 'few years back' on something that happened last season lol. Don't make me get a check up for alzheimers...

weirdest thing. did no one tell him the beam was broken (and/or the run timer was started regardless)? i forget how that worked. maybe they thought it was too dangerous to go down with a locked up chain... at that point seemingly quicker to break the chain outright and get him out quicker but chainless idk

Didn't Luca have a starting gate mishap last year (2025), too?
