Anyone with connections to Five Ten know what's going on with the Impact Pro? They've disappeared from the Adidas/Five Ten webpage (all versions, both low and high top), and retailers seem to have limited stock. As these are my go-to shoe, I'd like to know if I need to hoard these in my size like Covid-TP. There's no other flat pedal shoe in the market that tick the same boxes of fit/grip/stiffness/padding for me.
Have you tried the Specialized 2FO DH shoes?
I actually prefer them to Adidas’s rubber for DH riding since its grippier.
I have. Agreed on their rubber being better, but the last is way too narrow for my flat feet. If Spec updates the width, I'd definitely try them again, but as it stands the 2FO shoes are pure agony for me.
Try 1/2 size bigger ones, that worked for me.
I too am an Impact Pro fan and I have recently tried the 2FO DH. I did not like them because my feet felt like if they floated on the pedals and they were too narrow, even when trying 1/2 size bigger (and 1 full size bigger). For me, the Impact Pro feels way more "damped" and less dancy than any other shoe I have tried (Leatts, other Five ten (trailcross, Freerider), Ride Concepts Tallac).
I am just about to retire my current Impact Pros to city riding duties because my pedal pins wore out the sole a bit much, but they've been my only shoes for the last 4 seasons. I might need to grab another spare pair when using the one I have here.
I seem to get all the shoe luck, but also don't have super picky feet.
My buddy got me a pair of mid-top Impact Pro's from TJ Maxx for $32usd a couple of months ago in Texas. They had a whole stack of options at the time. Also love my 2F0 DH's (sometimes go on crazy sales on the Spec website). A Fox distributor gave me a pair of Union Boa clip shoes for free because of a change in factories. My last pair of shoes were Etnies Camber mtb shoes I got at Marshall's for like, $50cdn.
But back to the forum topic, no idea.
really wish we could still get Sam Hills!
Not to derail this further, but are the specialized shoes super firm? My guess is yes, I'm more of a skate shoe guy so that might keep me away from them. I had the Teva mountain bikes shoes years ago and thought they were ok, but also too rigid and tall to feel great for me.
I've been riding Unparallel Dust Up's, for at least 3 years, same pair going strong.
The Specialized DH flat is extremely stiff, like clip shoe stiff. I'd be all for that if it weren't so narrow.
When I looked at Unparallels a couple years ago, all the reviews I read indicate they've got a very soft sole, which is a dealbreaker for me.
The 2FO DH are stiff, like the Impact Pro. The 2FO Roost are less so, but still stiffer than the Freerider Pro.
I really hate they killed the Trailcross Mid Pro and Goretex in clip. I really wanted a pair for park days and they are gone now. I cant even find any old stock.
I decided to engage in a moderate level of hoarding - bought 2 pairs of brand new Impact Pros off eBay for the price of 1 full retail pair. Available sizes on both eBay and retail sites are pretty slim. Between the 2 pair I'm rotating between right now and those 2 pair, I should be good for 2 years or more. I'm trying to channel optimism that all this is due to them holding back on releasing a redesign next spring, but it wouldn't surprise me if the corporate overlords killed them off the model. My fallback hope is that either Specialized updates the 2FO DH to not be ballerina width, Fox updates their rubber to make it a bit softer and makes a DH flat, or RC updates their rubber to not be shit. One would think that within 2 years one of those things could happen.
You’re being highly optimistic for any of those things to happen 😅
still got a pair going strong
Lucky!! I tore into the bottom of mine too much to keep em going. It’s got me sad. I still regularly search hoping for another set someday. Stoked to hear yours are still solid!
The 2FO are a curious fit. They’re mid-narrow (works for me) but quite tall and lots of space above the foot. They didn’t fit until I put in custom inserts which eat up a lot of volume. Great for an all day pedalfest and bike park days, not comfy for quick trail rides, pump track sessions, trail work days, or real hot days.
The rubber is both grippier and more durable than 5.10 though. Every pair of Freerider Pros I’ve had has holes in the sole under my fourth metatarsal.
What size are you looking for?
Yeah I tried various insole options to try and make them work (both a thick heat-molded SOLE one from my ski boots, and actually double layering normal foam insoles). The issue I was having is there's a plastic strip that extends up from the sole about 1/4 inch along the edge, which cuts into the outer edge of my foot painfully. By the time I'd stacked enough insole material to get above it, I ran out of room in the shoe. The whole shoe is considerably narrower than any Five Ten, Fox, or RC shoe I've used - putting it on the same pedals leaves visible pedal on the sides.
10.5 or 11
QBP has the mid top versions in stock
