Telemetry For Everybody - Introducing SussMyBike 13

UPDATE: This project has now been officially funded on Kickstarter, with more to come if they meet their stretch funding goals - check it out for more information on the product, or to back the project if it's something that rocks your boat.

Telemetry in mountain biking is nothing new, you've probably seen all kinds of contraptions strapped to the suspension of the pros' bikes at the races. More recently however, people are beginning to develop smaller, off-the-shelf solutions suitable for use by any rider, such as "ShockWiz" which was launched earlier this year. While Shockwiz works by detecting changes in pressure in the air spring, SussMyBike uses a cable stretched between the crown and the lowers to measure suspension movement as you ride. The data collected by the device is analyzed by an app, which can then make suggestions for changes to make to your suspension settings. The solution is in the early development phase, but we're definitely looking forward to seeing it mature, and we'll be testing a unit as soon as they become available. In the meantime, check out the launch video and details from the founders below:

Press Release:

A Scottish start-up company SussMyBike is releasing an innovative new mountain bike product via a crowdfunding campaign next month (November 2015).

SussMyBike is a device that monitors mountain bike suspension and provides the rider with feedback on how to improve their suspension performance.

Alan Mason, inventor of SussMyBike, explained: “We have designed SussMyBike to addresses a pain point for many riders who want to set up their bikes effectively. Tuning the suspension on your mountain bike for best results can take hours of trial and error and lots of head scratching.SussMyBike – developed with support from the Mountain Bike Centre of Scotland (MBCOS) and Edinburgh and Napier Universities – takes away the guesswork and gives you the facts to adjust your bike properly.“

SussMyBike is a small electronic device that fits on the bike and analyses the suspension, then tells the rider the best settings to use via a smartphone app. The gadget will work on virtually all mountain bike using AIR or COIL suspension, and the SussMyBike is confident it can come up with a solution to adapt it to most rear shocks as well as forks.

Alan added: “Developing and testing the device been a real collaborative effort. We have worked with many excellent partners including the Mountain Bike Centre of Scotland, sports scientists at Napier University and Edinburgh University FabLab to name just a few. We have had input from great engineers with experience in materials and electronics design and positive feedback from riders ranging from novices to professional Enduro World Cup series riders who will put SussMyBike through its paces out on the trails. We still have some final tweaks to do so we hope a successful crowdfund will get us over the finishing line by providing the funds to bring this exciting new product to market.”

“We at the Mountain Bike Centre of Scotland (MTBCoS) have been working with Alan for the past year and are delighted to see the progress he has made with SussMyBike. The MTBCoS has supported SussMyBike with market research, focus groups, learning journey trip to Eurobike and access to expertise from Scottish Enterprise. SussMyBike have a fantastic product that can help find the holy grail for mountain bikers – how to get the most out of your bike.”  - Danny Cowe
