The feeling is somewhat similar, but I do feel like Cushcore has the edge here and has too many advantages not to run it. Rim protection, run flat capability in a race scenario, holding the tire bead on for cornering...All this has added up to me running Cushcore front and rear for almost 3 seasons now with EXO tires.
No, I don't work for these guys. Yes, it's a tire insert which only works with tubes. An old friend actually prefers this over his Huck Norris.
Has anybody tried it?
I do have two weeks in scotland now though so will be a good test for them.
one disadvantage so far would be weight. I have gone for light weight tubes on their advise but it is defiantly heavier.
Weight have never really bothered me though.
Does anyone know if tire manufacturers are working on integrating a foam cushion into the tire?
Any clue what Maxxis "Breaker" is?
The only report I've heard about Tannus is that the foam breaks down with use and pulls away from the inside of the tire, meanwhile it's still possible to pinch the baby tube they use.
Interesting to hear the difference in tire set-ups folks are running. I've always preferred DH tires, but usually that means slow rolling on the trail bike. I recently procured some 2.3 - 2.5 maxxis DD & DH combos that I am looking forward to trying soon, starting with a 2.3 DHR2 on the rear and 2.5 Assegai on the front, both maxxgrip. I have tried the 2.4 EXO+ DHR2 in maxxterra but it's not my favorite front tire as it tends to lose grip easily on wet roots. I can't feel the difference between the EXO and EXO+, but I have to run them both at higher pressure than dual plies to avoid rolling the tire or wrecking rims, so they all end up on my hardtail, which is mostly ridden on local trails with 5 miles of pavement to and fro home.
I am looking for a DH tire with a long lasting compound and it must resemble the DHR 2 as thats my favorite rear tire!
so my problem is Maxxis only make they're DH tires in Maxxgrip so I bought the Michelin DH34 bike park compound only to find out the bike park compound has less protection and less "beefiness" than they're race compound.
so does any one know of a DH casing tire with a long lasting compound that somewhat resembles the DHR2 ?
I ran the Michelin Wild Rock'R2 in Gum-X compound on the rear of my enduro bike and it's been a very good tire. It's also not very expensive, I guess.
However, this is not a DH casing tire and I am running it with CushCore, which is the shiznit for me. I don't know much about DD and EXO+ casings on Maxxis, since I never had them, but for me simple EXO with CushCore works just fine. The Michelin seems to be somewhere between EXO and DH casing on a Maxxis scale.
Cheers!
Mx
