Varaxis Added a comment about video Video Vault: Big Bear World Cup, 1999 from Transcontinental Headliners 2

I think the owner used to be pretty big on mtn biking. They don't really hire that many people during the summer--basically seems like minimum # of plp just to run the restaurant, the security, the lifts, and ticket booth. I saw one guy opening up the Pirates trail that got "bulldozed" through by the anti-forest fire team, who basically looked liked he was alone patrolling the trails. Looked like he had a huge workload and we were wanting to ride Pirates again, so we helped clean up the trail head, which was littered with logs to discourage riders from...

"And now you can hardly get a DH bike up there, what a shame." Last season, you could, despite it being against the rules. The were loading up dual crown forked bikes and even bikes that looked like pedal powered motos, with huge Carnutt shocks. I actually was wondering if this was the same Big bear I visit, when I saw Big Bear in the title. I barely even recognize it, but then again I only started mtbing 2 years ago. I do notice lines going down the steep face of the hill by the main lift, but they're closed...

They call that advanced? Zomg, we learned how to properly better design knob support and knob flex for performance on a computer, using sipes to gain more traction, with some base rubber compound. Looks like Specialized is only now is trying to "catch up" in tech. FEA only eliminates some guess work, which may be a lot of guesswork when you're not really a big tire maker with lots of experience. Real world performance matters most and the last word always comes from trial and error with field testing. Things that pop out of the lab to be tested, err...

Mostly useless armor, only good for some shoulder abrasion resistance

1/2/2012 5:18pm What's the big black cylinder thing that he's pressing into the lower legs? Is that a "tool" to install the wiper seal? If so, damn... I've just pressed them in by hand, without tools. Guess that's one of the differences between professionals and home mechanics.

Maybe next year people will be saying how great this derailleur is. I honestly thought it was marketed as a '12 product, since I only saw it late this year around the time the new '12 XT launched and I got to demo it at Jenson. I guess that's how it is for consumers, who tend to hold off for reviews before buying something and insiders who get to see and ride things many months before others. Best product is not always the most popular or favorite product. If I wanted to vote for favorite, I'd pick my Reverb, since...

11/24/2011 3:51am I heard 29ers had more traction and were more susceptible to flex. I guess this is what happens when the tire sticks and the wheel flexes.

Not really the quality I expected from the Hero2, mounted on a helmet. It looked super smooth, but I know better since I've ridden there. The little rocks were popping up out of no where as they got close and there was a blurry spot in the middle.

Yea. There's a fine line between too short and too long. It might just be that their sizes that fit 28" waists were designed for shorties rather than skinny Asians 5' 7" to 5' 10" tall with 30+" inseams. That actually might be true, since Dakine shorts are abnormally long on bigger sizes, yet their 28" waist sizes seem to fit me perfectly, not even going past the top of my knee. The pluses on Jett's shorts: - Pockets. 4 of them on this one, 2 of them acting as optional vents. The side slash pockets have a large opening...

I have the old brown Raptor, beige Lightning, and the old black, grey and red Jett logo-camo Hornet short. I don't like how the cotton of the Hornet stank after sweat and other kinds of moisture soaked into it and the low crotch caught onto saddles (was just a long crotch, the zipper length didn't seem to be any longer), though the inseam was just right. Both the Lightning and Hornet had pretty short inseams--they don't look so good with knee pads, with that "sexy" skin showing between the top of the knee pads and bottom of the short (love...

I'd prefer if it had a 2-3" longer inseam and a longer zipper for times you ditch the chamois and don't want to drop your shorts to take a quick leak. Nice to see the added color to the vent mesh; the white from before looked too much like underwear. That chamois looks like it goes a bit too high in front still.

11/4/2011 1:14pm Santa Cruz needs to hire a real graphics guy for their decals. Maybe commission whoever did Pivot's or Trek's decals. I'm sure they have the connections, since the Syndicate decal set looks pretty sharp. Hmm, race bikes in general look nicer (ex. Gwin's Session vs production, Yeti race bikes vs production, etc). Hmm, maybe I need to find some vinyl decal cutters to pimp my own ride. The logo on the bottom's way too big. The white and cobalt above it is a nice combo though. Not really a fan of the "clean" look though.

10/18/2011 8:25pm It's those tires. Just a future tip: make sure you pair Schwalbes with Schwalbes, else that drift becomes scary. My rear tire was getting bald and I replaced it with a WTB Bronson AM TCS and now the front drifts, but the rear doesn't... I bet you can imagine how that feels.
