Varaxis Added a comment about feature First Look: Intense Debuts the M9275, a 650B Downhill Bike
9/8/2012 10:27am Who does Intense have to test their DH bikes? JD Swangeun has their 29er 951. The DRD team's season is over now, so maybe one will have plenty of time to ride one. Maybe I'll get to see it in action at Southridge SRC and/or Bootleg Canyon at the races, at start of the new year.

9/8/2012 8:14am Scott from Intense said the wheel size difference is only ~8mm. You also have to realize that 2.35 tires are not only narrower, but also shorter than fatter 2.5 tires. Once true DH tires come out....

Varaxis Added a comment about feature First Look: The Contour+2 Camera - Best of Two Worlds
9/5/2012 4:44pm Ask Contour to get rid of GPS, Bluetooth/wireless, all the other features you prob wouldn't use, and drop the price, and what do you get? A GoPro clone that probably ain't worth buying over a GoPro. The GoPro has so many accessories that make it better, even though they are kind of expensive, but even without them, the GoPro does its job without any real complaints, at a great price (and prob with longer battery life). Contour just seems to be after the title of most advanced camera in this category. It's probably a wiser move to go after the...

9/4/2012 9:56am A new pair of pads for every racerun wouldn't make any sense. Brakes need to be broken in. Also I doubt bleeding the system every day makes it more reliable.

9/4/2012 9:47am I suppose you didn't read up to the part the said: "In my experience pads, wear out in a matter of hours in the wet sloppy stuff, and months in dry dusty conditions." I'm not exaggerating about the pads wearing out within a few laps, maintaining a race pace in the mud, even in XC riding. Another person that thinks racers like Gwin get practically new everything every time they bring their bike into the pits... Pic I was referring to earlier: http://www.pinkbike.com/photo/8609783/ It's bad juju to do last minute maintenance on a bike that is running good during the...

9/9/2012 2:09am He said the brakes worked fine at the top and that both failed. Quite some coincidences for your theory to work out. I wonder how your theory about him getting new brake pads daily plays out too. Also note that his brakes also recovered enough for him to do the wooded section at almost race pace--he was about 25 secs back on his first split and was about 25-29 secs back on his 2nd and 3rd splits. His run was over already. Also, I never implied fully worn pads. It only needs to be worn a little to be more...

9/4/2012 10:49am I recall that his brakes were pretty loud coming into first those corners in the upper section, and I think they made him stand up a bit. I dunno, but it didn't look smooth and controlled. Didn't get to see much the crash due to the camera angle, but I hear he simply just went off course into the netting. Commentators were saying that Gwin looked like he was being cautious. Look at the pic of Monk that morning. If his appearances mean anything, he didn't look to be at the top of his game that morning. Gwin's run @...

9/4/2012 4:44am Happens to my brakes (multiple brands, inc Avid and Shimano). They eventually get to the point where if I lay the bike on its side, put it upside down for a little trail maintenance, or wheel it vertically on its back tire, when I bring it upright again, I'd need to pump it a few times to get braking power back. I usually get enough braking power back to ride, but I run XCish dual piston brakes on XC tracks. Bleeding doesn't always fix it--trust me, I try to get the perfect bleed, even repeating the steps with the bike...

Varaxis Added a comment about video VITAL VIDEO: Shredding Mammoth Mountain Bike Park 2012
8/23/2012 7:28am
WTF, he landed that far down the ramp on the Flow drop (1:49)? WTF, that's some ridiculous speed going through the last rock garden in Upper Shock Treatment (2:07)! Last time I rode through that rock garden, my group encountered a downed rider who broke his ribs. You didn't capture any of signature Mammoth drops really. I never get tired of seeing people do them. You got the Flow drop, but that angle left a lot to be desired. I wanna see a massive 2 wheel drift on that one wide left on Kamikaze, mimicking Sam Hill's legendary World Championship...

Varaxis Added a comment about product review Chain Gang
8/21/2012 11:45pm Certainly sounds dependable... Once I started using decent chain lube and after moving to SoCal, I never found a reason for using one of these. I hear that UBI discourages the use of them and even discourages the use of degreasers and dish soap (the kind that cuts grease). They say it does more harm than good, stripping lubrication from where it's most needed, and that most lubes have trouble penetrating into the places, and offering enough lubrication where it's needed.

Varaxis Added a comment about feature First Look: 2013 Five Ten Freerider VXi and Dirtbag Shoes
8/3/2012 4:09pm I've considered gluing a 40-60A duro rubber tread to the bottom of my shoes to be even grippier than FiveTen's stealth rubber (which I believe have more like a 70-80A durometer), but after looking at 5.10 and rock climbing history, it seems people have beat me to that idea. :D Anyone here enjoy combining mtn biking with rock climbing?
