Fox Liked a reply to forum topic How Much Reach is Too Much Reach?

From XL SC Blur LT to XL Ibis Mojo HD to L first gen E29 (L because the XL simply felt massive at the time going from 26-29” wheels) to L Yeti 5.5 (60mm stem). Yesterday was my first ride on my new 2018 XL Yeti 5.5. I’m 6’2. Decided to size up as I am on the edge for L vs XL. Reach from the L to XL 5.5 went from 442mm to 463mm. Stem on the XL is a 50, so probably a about a 10mm increase in reach with the grip to ground height unchanged. Bike felt...

I’ve not thought about this from the perspective of lengthening the CS but I’ve ridden with this set up and it does help high speed stability and when pushing against the pedals over steep gnar you don’t overstretch ankles on big hits. Just a trade off with ankle flex but that can be fine tuned as well so I’ve taken...

jeff.brines Liked a reply to forum topic The Internet Was Wrong: Short Chainstays Suck*

Just a fun tip - anyone who wants to try out longer chainstays without buying a new bike, you can. Just move your cleat as far back on your shoe as possible. Hell, even drill new holes like a certain EWS champion does. I did this last year and found a noteworthy gain in my lap times. You can actually very the length pretty effectively with this "test".

Ok so yes the FC and Reach are different however from a practical standpoint similar style bikes (similar travel, HA and same reach) have only a few MM of extra length. In context that’s less than 0.5% of FC and less 0.25% of WB. Given we are discussing FC/RC ratios of 50/50 through to 60/40 I think this is in...
Interesting this thread came back to life....could it be because the bikes have continued to get even longer? I thought the Vorsprung video was good and backed up my impression that more average height riders look better balanced on bikes with the right FC/RC proportion. Speaking as a tall dude (6’2”) I do think it’s a bigger problem for taller...
I’ve gone from 27.5 to 29 and I run an AM (mega 290) and HT (honzo). I also have a 27.5 DH rig. I’m 6,2” and so my bikes are pretty big (c1250 WB on the AM and almost 1300 on DH) with the HT a bit shorter due to frame size and adjustable CS length. I’m based in the...

AceHouston Liked a product review Tested: Maxxis Forekaster Tire

11/22/2017 10:30am
With each passing year, more and more riders are looking to extend their riding season as long as possible. This usually means that trails are more muddy, loose and wet – leaving a lot of compromises to be made when it comes to picking the right tire for the conditions. Maxxis stepped up to the plate to provide trail riders with a tire that bridges the gap between a mud spike and a tire meant for dry conditions. The Forekaster is a tire that allows riders to ride with confidence when trail conditions start to deteriorate. We tested a new...

FredLikesTrikes Liked a product review Tested: e*thirteen TRS Tires

Review and photos by Fred Robinson and Brandon Turman e*thirteen- the name is synonymous with chain guides, guide rings, drivetrain innovation and more recently wheels. But tires? We not going to say it’s rare to see a component brand take on tires, but we will say we were a bit surprised when they showed us some early prototypes, complete with hand-cut modifications, at the EWS in Finale Ligure last year. As you might have gathered from our recent article showing the ins-and-outs of e*thirteen as a brand, it’s clear they are in the business of creating products that don’t necessarily...

nice to see a decent amount of comments and interactions. comments can get a bit lonely on vital posts but good to see users stepping it up

I think the chain stay balance issue is just a part of the bigger need to scale bikes proportionately..... There seem to be 2 key areas (1) proportionate chainstays and (2) stack to reach ratio. As far as I know there isn't a manufacturer who broadly maintains stack to reach ratio across sizes. I know for some very small sizes...

Hi Joe Just wondering how much you weigh. I'm 100kgs, do you think these could handle a bigger guy. I doubt I do as big a jumps as you and I use a DH rig for my DH. Cheers
