Super Insightful and Full of Comedy- But, come on, isn't adjustable geometry making you feel that much more rad than whatever chum actually would ride in the high/steep position? And isn't relativism what being rad is really about? Also, in some parts of the country we periodically go on big rides over many many mountains (In for 2018), sometimes with chainsaws, and on these rides not hitting all of the rocks with your sick flat pedals (with a little extra seat angle to boot) is really nice. And I get to feel altruistic for helping you in turn be much...

Sweet build and can confirm that rear shock is hands down amazing. So buttery smooth and supportive. Easily tunable using positive and negative air chambers. So good I bought the Diamond boost too but waiting for new wheelset to run it. The wait is killing me.

Was so good to see so many clean runs. I think the format this year was bang on. Was so good to see the riders have ample practice time and not super stretched. Last year was just a bit too sketchy and it was hard to watch. The guys seemed more dialled and comfortable this year.

It seems like every year the judging takes away from what is an insane event. Hell, even Strait said he didn’t take his second run because it wasn’t worth the risk to him seeing how they were judging. It’s hard to argue that Bizet got hosed. I say eliminate the judging, let Red Bull pony up some good dough, pay the top ten guys, and let them put on a show. Fest style.

Great article, Vital rocks. While I agree with what is stated in this article I've had different outcomes when testing coil vs air. First off, what hasn't been mentioned here or in the Rockshox story is how the negative chamber works on an air shock. The negative air makes the shock softer at sag and can make the shock feel less poppy. The coil spring on the other hand is firmer at sag which gives the support so many people feel. I've found this to make the bike feel more poppy and faster. Due to larger negative Evol and Debonair...

I have been completely blown away by the performance of this box. For me there is no downside other than cost. The delay in shifting is non existent. I can sneak a shift at the bottom of a downstroke 95% of the time without pausing and shift way more now than one a regular drivetrain. Being in the right gear all the time and perfect instantaneous shifting and performance is amazing. Centralised weight is awesome. My Taniwha feels lighter than my last bike. Gripshift is no problem. I just love going out and knowing my gearing will be perfect

That's also a pretty neat PR story, don't you think?

For me, right after its built I choose to 'forget' the cost as well. Every build is different, there are so many variables that the total cost of this is not important. As you rightly said, a ballpark figure can be easily worked out for someone eager to replicate or build something similar for themselves. Sweet build. I'm planning one too as soon as the XL is released. I'm also coming of a 26er.

I'm not against the UCI prescribing a wheel size. In all forms of racing there are rules on equipment standards, motorsports being a perfect example. There will be no benefit when everyone is on one so why go there. Development will continue, and rules in time can change seasonally but I think its time to rule on a wheel size.

I was going to tag you in this for that reason there, knew you would be smiling inside for that one, haha. On the note of "plus tires" and 2.6" tires. - maxxis "2.8" measures 2.55 wall to wall, on a 35mm ID rim. So what are their 2.6s, relabeled 2.4s?? A WTB convict or breakout in 2.5 on a 30-35mm rim measures barely over 2.5. And schwalbe is similar. Things that should be out for 2016, not knowing how to label your shit correctly, that's so #2011 #getittogether

I know its personal preference/opinion but think you could make the grip shift work & within a ride it would become second nature. FWIW Jerome Clementz runs a grip shift and momentarily self clutching I don't see as a big deal. The upside is you can gain or dump a bunch of gears on the fly and precisely be where you want to be instantly & accurately.
