Sounds like it rips. How does it handle pedaling and shifting under load?

We didnt know Ingo personally, we just conacted him Tubes came from: Zonenschein, Wowbike and Huahsines. About dimensioning, well Peter has an engineering backround and we got recommendations from Kavenz bikes and others. And then we mostly added a bit on top

We bought the tubes all over the place, wherever we would get them :D Welding was done by a professional welder, including heat treatment afterwards. Because yeah, you need to know what you are doing, when welding aluminium, and i dont

Thx! It's the 6-Gear Version with 295% range. Pretty much the same Range as a SRAM DH 7-Gear Setup. The reason for the Gearbox was first of all less unsprung weight on the rear wheel (about 450g), which makes the suspension more active and supple / plush. Which is the whole point of a DH-Bike suspension i'd say. The weight also sits perfectly low in the frame and makes the bike feel super planted and stable (low center of gravity). No derailleur to rip off, super low maintainance, always perfect chainline, no cassette to clog with mud, etc. is...

Get Linkage Design (https://www.bikechecker.com/) and Design your suspension and geometry. Then find someone who knows how to translate that into CAD

The welding (and heat treatment) was done by Ingo Müller. He is also welding the Kavenz Bikes for example. I'd say he's pretty good

That's amazing. The bike just looks ridiculously clean and tidy for a home project. Who welded it? As I understand it, welding aluminum frame tubes is significantly harder than welding steel. I guess the biggest benefit is that machine time goes way down for making all the bits and bobs out of aluminum instead of steel. I have a friend who made a steel gearbox downhill bike and it seems like he spent a whole year on the mill making junctions and braces and pivot locations.

Does this mean the great Rolf Van Sosen, the account manager at Bellevue firm EquiMidas Equity Management and Investment Capital Strategies, LLC, is not as sick as a mountain biker his instagram account portrays him to be?

Doe's switching chain lube or cleaning your chain make you, personally, go noticeably faster up hill? It's the same argument back to back. We both know less unsprung weight will create less inertia after a hit. This means the damper can function more efficiently, creating better traction, and fractional gains. You also need proper suspension design, bearing choice, and overall reduction of friction to take advantage of this. The ability to eliminate the cassette means a better balance of anti squat and pedal kickback. I'd be willing to guess you know what cog on your particular bike has the most...

Ceramicspeeds design was one bearing at a time meshing into a machined “cassette”, very few points of contact. Compared to the many points meshing in a chain or standard gearbox design. The only reason larger cogs are more efficient with more points contacting at once, is because you are reducing the rotation of the bushing itself. A 10t cog has more resistance than a 25t for this reason. Shimano filed a patent earlier this year on the dual cassette driven by a chain, in a box. Not that shimano filing a patent really means much. But even that. Two small...

I firmly believe that there is only one hurdle to overcome with gearboxes, and it has nothing to do with efficiency. Between the top companies, there is enough funding and engineering creativity, to overcome all "problems" associated with gearboxes. We do not need constantly meshing gears that are way overbuilt for human power. Ceramicspeed's driven1 driveshaft system showed that you can beat the standard efficiency of a chain. But they made it over complicated and left it outside the bike..... The ONLY issue holding back gearbox drivetrains, is that the current drivetrain manufactures have an absolutely massive market domination on...

Short answer: as far as I've heard, manufacturing limitations mean that in a real functional environment all gears (even new-fangled non-involute gears) slide a little when they make contact. If there were no friction or impact between meshing gears, for instance, you wouldn't need lubrication in a gearbox. You can certainly lower friction in the system through fancy new-fangled gear profiles and careful engineering, but it's hard and it's expensive to come close to the efficiency of a chain-driven system. That's why Hammerschmidt cost $1200 and felt like pedaling through sand.
