You talking about the graphs that magnify the scale, like from 30 to 45, rather than showing 0 to 45?

I'm saying that if I were to buy a foam insert, I'd be more confident in my choice if it were based on comparison data like this, as opposed to just deciding based on weight, price, putting trust in my imagination/belief that it's "just foam", and from putting relatively blind trust in other peoples' opinions.

My comment was encouragement for doing such comparison tests. I also was making a joke about my shopping habits that I reluctantly do in absence of such data. Just thought it'd be unfortunate if this kind of stuff got so much negative feedback, to the point that companies would be reluctant to do more of it.

This is the kind of stuff I like to see, that gives me more confidence in my choices! Sadly, I doubt having data like this will do much to beat the prevailing wisdom (sarcasm), such as "it's just foam" or "it weighs less and is half the cost." Those who didn't pick CushCore will likely defend their choice, convincing themselves that "it works just fine" and "I haven't had any problems". "This many people [without CushCore] can't be wrong." Or they may resort to picking out the cases where CushCore didn't protect the rider from failure, even unrelated failures that any insert can't do anything about...

BTW, in another post, I posted a table that suggested that with the usual sizing method of increasing FC by ~20mm per size through reach, I'd generalize the CS should grow by 4.5mm to balance that out to have similar weight bias. That's not extreme, ... more »

In terms of scaling, I was considering how well it applies to NORBA XC geo ~42 inch wheelbase (1050mm in med) and smaller (DJ, trials, road), and Geometron geo 1325mm wheelbase and bigger. I was afraid that people would "round" the ratio to fewer digits. ... more »

Ah, I misread. I thought you were identifying types of people based on their behavior patterns, like [ignorant] types that think those pushing ebikes are getting paid to do so, as if selling out. The types actually acting out to boycott brands, advocacy groups, and media sites, are...

What do you call the people who spoke out that they refuse to support companies that don't shame ebikes?

My impression: the old man needed the royal treatment to even discover the experience of trail riding. I call that the "princess tax", similar to paying a premium for things since it weighs less. If I criticize the ebike, then I also criticize the weight weenism (for those who aren't milliseconds off from being on the podium). I rather just criticize that people give up too easily...

I'll also criticize that ebikes are just bikes with a motor and power source added. I'd be more impressed if they brought innovation/change that helped cycling as a whole. An efficient gearbox wouldn't be a bad start, but I think I'm dreaming still... doubt anyone would want to pedal a gearbox ebike without the power from the battery helping.

Not only that, but I'd go as far as arguing that short CS and short wheelbases are more suited to smaller wheels, since there's a synergy for where/how they likely to be ridden (tight techy trails). I still keep a 2013 Stumpjumper FSR EVO in my quiver, ... more »

Guessing they're saying it's a bad idea if you're going 27.5 to mixed. Not much to F up if you go 29 to mixed. I'm picturing the Kona Process 153 29 in med as a good candidate, that fits your specs.

Sounds like you convinced yourself that you didn't have to adapt to the bike's geo that much, and felt the negative traits of heavy weight bias up front, which I expected. Do you usually try to shift hips more forward on climbs or only on your friend's ... more »

What was so terrifying about your friend's bike? What was the risk? Placing the front wheel improperly and going OTB?

Can you confirm what bike it is and what size? I presumed it was a SBG transition patrol in size L. I'll find a replacement that shows central positioning I guess. Hard to find examples... Here's one that shows behind-the-saddle positioning: https://bikerumor.com/2018/09/27/2019-norco-fluid-fs-an-all-new-affordable-aluminum-trail-bike/

I'm confused by how my post could be read so different from its literal wording. Pay attention to the caption under A, and relate it to the last line in the post. It's all about rider positioning, and why it must adapt that way to the geo. This thread

@Verbal Kint That bike would be immediately crossed off my own list. To balance out a RC of 452mm on an Enduro plow bike, I'd want a FC of 865. To balance out a FC of 737mm, I'd want a RC of 415. I don't go by FC or RC ratio. Not sure what R-M-R sees ... more »

I cannot unlink CS length from the FC or WB. This is a vital relationship that determines the bike's weight distro bias. Steve@Vorsprung's video should've emphasized how important this is. Reach is a different matter. The main point on which I disagree

@R-M-R Surprised you didn't get offended at me for figuring that you were seemingly wanting something similar to JFL1200, with extremely long CS (460+mm) and more on the defensive (behind the BB by well over half a foot 160+mm) side of the positioning
