11/4/2023 6:03pm I reckon if they're running with the T-type cassette (narrow wide profile and whatnot), using a mechanical mech, they will mandate a single-click shifter which physically slows down your shifts, giving you that T-type effect. I have a hunch that the cassette and chain are nothing really special on T-type and all the shift quality benefits are just from the...

10/14/2023 3:40am Great labor will keep the good shops thriving. Even as an enthusiast who has always done everything and custom builds everything there's still I'm happy to leave bikes in good hands if I simply don't have the time. Rest of the bike shops I have no remorse for; arrogant attitudes, unjustifiable mark ups for providing no service (buying a frame...

8/12/2023 2:31pm Extra unsprung weight is a very valid point! Though again in practice (especially for heavier riders) you're talking about a very negligible difference. However, I agree the presence of a friction clutch is quite an annoyance on a gravity-oriented bike. Thankfully an easy solution exists that can be achieved with current technology: Include a pulley near the crankset that moves...

8/12/2023 10:33am Stoked to see different thoughts, figured I'd weigh in with my own, mostly focusing on components/tech as geometry is still such a rider-specific thing, and I don't believe you can be prescriptive about it, hence backing up a lot of input on this thread about custom bikes/geo for specific riders. I'm all in! Brakes I truly believe brakes are as...

8/11/2023 6:33am got me wondering, really how close are we to "perfection"? sum up the current best of the best components and it really doesn't feel like there's much room to move, geo has certainly settled it seems (63.5 head, 480 reach in a L, etc), maybe once that push fork is out my personal reckoning is that the boujee dentist-level bikes...

8/10/2023 11:12pm I've had 2 forks now with bad CSU's, the bushings were perfect, stanchions were skewed outwards, required a little inwards push to slip the lowers back on. Only a few mms off but felt horrid on the trail.

7/31/2023 5:36am Just like I suggested above, difference is it can be achieved with existing hardware. Flight attendant cadence sensors are out there, and from what I can tell they are even compatible with non-sram cranks (there's an expanding plug version just looking at the diagrams). It would just require software at the moment to make it all work. If anything it...

7/28/2023 7:09pm So good to hear from the horses mouth! I've been curious about that myself. The one thing I can't help but reckon is that SRAM should integrate Transmission with a cadence sensor such as that of the Flight Attendant system. Hence the timing could be even more precise, allowing the transmission to speed up when the cadence is very high...

5/4/2023 6:44am For people who actually go very very short <150mm, do you go down heaps in chainring size to match, like minus 4 or 6 teeth? I experimented with 160s after riding 170s and felt like I immediately had to drop down 2t, which is no bad thing for ground clearance or weight. Seems like an overall win for ride feel...
mybikeistoobig Added a reply to X0 vs XX Transmission Cassette difference?
5/4/2023 6:30am The price difference is large for an improvement we don't have figures on, I suspect X0 would be the better deal but time shall tell!
mybikeistoobig Added a reply to X0 vs XX Transmission Cassette difference?
5/4/2023 6:28am Interesting! Shame SRAM doesn't make note of this themselves, I really wonder what the difference in longevity really is, the hardened "tool steel" they claim to be using on the XX (check SRAM website) sounds.. good? And I assume this is what they are referring to by "sophisticated grade of steel". In fairness though, previous eagle cassettes didn't advertise this...
