Jakeepooh Added a comment about feature Specialized Stumpjumper S-Works Vs Stumpjumper Comp Alloy

Wow, I'm not sure I've ever read an MTB review that seemed to understand and respect the mindset of a typical consumer quite that well. Sure, there are some people who would have loved a few paragraphs talking about the differences in chainstay lengths and leverage curves and stuff like that. There's room for that sort of review as well, right? I mean, I love nerding out as much as the next guy... Heck, I don't mean to criticize other reviews by praising this one. I just mean I enjoyed the review, and I feel like lots of people would...

Jakeepooh Added a comment about press release Telemetry on Stock Bikes: Mondraker Introduces MIND

2/9/2021 10:20am
This is fascinating to me. I've played around with similar, yet dumber, ideas of my own, but I like what they've done much better. p.s. I've never owned or ridden a Mondraker bike. I suck at MTB in general, and can't influence my wife and children, much less influence the purchase decisions of the VitalMTB readers.

I've read the book "Dialed" by Lee McCormack and have taken what he details there and his website https://www.llbmtb.com/ to compare bike geometry/set ups to find what bikes will fit me the best. At 6'0" (but with dimensions that make me fit bikes more like I'm 5'10",) I have found that the majority of frames lack enough stack. Most bikes will need to have a lot of spacers under the stem and a high rise handlebar to get the grips the right distance and angle from the BB to fit me and my riding preference. I remember a number of...

My guess is that without any body-english changes, you'd have a slightly lighter front wheel. You'd wheelie a little more under pedal power and have a little less front wheel grip in the corners. I think adjusting your form would fix it all. (Plus, manuals would likely be easier!)

I wish I was enough of an expert to know the answer to this question. What would actually happen if the handlebars were like 5"-6" higher up, all else remaining equal? All my time reading reviews and comment sections tells me something about the front-end not being weighted enough for traction, but I have no idea if that's true. I'm...

I'd like to take an unpopular position for a moment to defend flow trails. Flow trails aren't inherently bad. In fact, I can think of a few flow trails I've ridden that are phenomenal. Whoops in Bend, Crank it Up in Whistler, and Silky Johnson at Sol Vista/Granby are all machine-built flow trails with no mandatory jumps, and all three of those trails can entertain an absolute beginner or a WC downhill pro. Seasoned pros have come to Whoops and broken wheels or ripped tires off. Flow trails don't have to suck. I think what we're really complaining about here...

@TEAMROBOT- you bring up some “flow” trails that have great reputations. We have Steve Wentz, who built Silky Johnson, here building a trail for us. Just because a trail is machine built and filled with features does not make for a boring trail. Just like your example of rebuilding Derailed, paying attention to how the terrain is used is of utmost importance.

Where I live, in a little corner of southeast Idaho, all the trails I ride have existed practically speaking, forever. Many were originally 19th-century cattle/logging/mining roads that maybe followed existing Native American or game paths. Some are now very narrow singletrack and others are washed out doubletrack. They've all got lots of rocks and flat turns, with berms only showing...

OneUp pump - Well made from alloy works great. Stores the EDC tool inside or a CO2. OneUp EDC tool. Let down. Hyped up by Pro riders for its storage convenience but its Fiddly. Hard to operate with gloves. Goes back together only one way with too many small pieces to loose on the side of the trail. Not enough leverage with small multi tool or tire levers.

Yeah, the app is really really well done. Very clean and intuitive. The battery life is great. Most of my rides are 6-15 mile out and backs, 2-3 times a week and I charge the part that actually moves the derailer about every 6 weeks and the bar-mounted remote about half as often. It's a good thing a charge lasts...
