I did exactly what you are talking about a long time ago. Maxxis Minion 2.5 42a, one standard DH, one UST version. UST version was folding and therefore around 140-160 g lighter. Both set up tubeless on Mavic 823 rims with sealant. The weight loss was totally noticeable.

Some comments here. Worn vs. new tire: from weighing them, a worn tire usually loses 15-40 g (26", 2.4/2.5). Because your sealant most likely has partially dried up, most of the weight addition comes from fresh sealant. Rotating weight: the farther on the outside of a wheel, the more you will feel the weight from a ride dynamic point of...

Not being able to feel approx. 100 g difference on the outside of a rotating wheel? Fun fact: in my puzzling experience do Maxxis tires not differ much, while Schwalbe have huge deviations between identical models/compounds/sizes.

To be fair, Intense bikes were always on the more lightweight side of things for aluminum bikes. So natural that they do not last as long as overbuild bikes. I have a collection of old Intense bikes and most of them are well aligned, so not sure where that rumor comes from. Some have the living sh!t beaten out of...

While I partially agree with you, I also can follow BK's arguments that UCI makes it harder for athletes to earn sponsorship money from other places. They brought in Mercedes as a title sponsor and he mentions also the deal with GoPro. So where is that money going if the promoter of an event has to basically pay everything including...

The last generation 26" Intense Spider FRO did weigh around 2500 g for frame and shock depending on finish and size. There is some potential for weight savings with a different shock and ti bolts. The Scott Spark of that period was claimed to weigh 1800 g for frame+shock (with lighter DT shock).

iRider Added a reply to Has Red Bull Hardline gone too far?

For me Hardline feels like the mates races that we did when we were younger. We build jumps, steep lines etc. that scared us, then helped/encouraged each other until (nearly) everybody hit them. Finally, we timed ourselves on this track for bragging rights. Hardline fells the same to me, just on a way bigger scale (jumps, organization and marketing).

Yeah, intense has been gradually fading for a while. It is sad. Seems odd to pay a lot to sponsor Gwin without addressing any of the issues that prevent most of us from being interested in buying an intense. I mean, even if Gwin was winning lots it's not like it would make most bikers overlook the old geo, very questionable looks/color schemes, high prices, etc. It does make me wonder if Gwin is being partly paid in owning part of the company, I know there was some speculation about this when he initially signed with them.

There seems to be a bigger story behind intense's current state. A total lack of direction and improvement to consumer bikes won't bode well for them. Their heritage and having Gwin onboard will only take them so far before they drop like other brands (Think ellsworth, turner, etc). Painful to watch honestly, especially the weird stunt they did with the new mullet tracer back in august, letting media ride the bike but without giving out any geometry or a timeline for market availability.

I am old school: I do not mind suffering on the climbs if I have a more fun bike on the way down or rolling terrain. Climbs will always suck, making them less suck-y is not worth the compromise IMO.

It's a shame because I used to Lust after Intense bikes. I started riding in 99 and I had posters of all the intense riders and bikes on my wall as a kid. I even loved the Haro team because they were riding rebranded M1's. I had this poster over my bed:

I do not think this is necessarily a bad thing. Not everybody wants or needs the same geo as EWS and WC riders. Sure, you might lose street cred by admitting your are not as fast, but don't we all know that anyway? Laughing Wink
