iRider Added a reply to E-MTBs That Are Also E-Motos - What's Going to Happen?
6/17/2025 4:47pm So how does this behaviour differ from e-motos poaching MTB trails? If e-bikes are not allowed and nobody obeys the rule, so why should e-moto users? It is a user and not a classification problem.

6/17/2025 4:42pm Why does your view on what should be allowed on the trails conveniently aligns with what you have decided for yourself to use? A hiker would argue that no bikes should be on the trails because they all destroy them. In reality, it depends on the area, the soil type and type of trail how much it is affected by...

6/15/2025 5:06am I hope that you are aware of the fact that a lot of the alpine roads and paths were open to offroad motorcycle use until not too long ago. A lot of the old military roads still are, e.g. in the Lake Garda region. The lighter ones of the emotos are 50 kg and their geometry is not as slack...

6/14/2025 12:31pm Check this channel out. They know what they are doing and some of the backcountry riding they do looks super fun. At least more fun than a pedelec ride. https://www.youtube.com/@ElectricCycleRider/videos

6/14/2025 12:28pm The Sur Ron Light Bee can be bought as 30 km/h mopped or 45 km/h in the EU and both require plates, insurance and a license. The first one can be operated from 15 YOA, the 45 km/h one from 18. Car license in most EU countries includes the license for the 45 km/h mopped. So, yeah, the rules are...
iRider Added a reply to E-MTBs That Are Also E-Motos - What's Going to Happen?
6/14/2025 6:37am Other than riding on private property, what use case is there for a Surron or light electric motorcycle? They seem like lame small motos to me, that are only actually useful for poaching MTB trails and illegally riding on the road as mopeds, because they are quiet. No, they are not. They can be the solution to get people out...

3/23/2025 12:28am Depends on how you define "manufacturing". 😉 They assemble all their product in house, but the machining, anodizing and such is outsourced. But I agree with you: if they would do all their machining in house, that would add 2-6 persons plus the CNC machines.

3/23/2025 12:25am Intend doesn’t manufacture in house so that simplifies things a lot in regards to personnel. If Cascade didn’t have a shop we’d probably be a four person company.

3/22/2025 5:23pm According to this "factory" visit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJ8eDLTDafg (in German) Intend has the following employees: 2 x 100% (one of them is Cornelius) 2 x 80% 1 x unspecified hours, sounded like a replacement for one of the 80% guys who was on parental leave when the video was filmed Pretty small operation for how many products they have and what great...

3/22/2025 5:54am Maybe not all 40 employees are full time? I know of a biotech company that inflates their staff numbers for the investors by listing e.g. their freelance marketing guy, their interns, cleaning personal, tax consultant, etc. as "staff" although most of them do only get a tiny fraction of their full salary from them.

1/21/2025 4:53am I think this is only partially correct. They allow racers to film their race runs, but they own the footage and have first rights to use it. BK's issue was, that he does not get paid for his work as camera man and would have to run a GoPro (sponsor of the WC series), which would not allow him to...
iRider Added a reply to Front DH Tyres Accurately Timed: Kryptotal vs Assegai vs Magic Mary vs Vigilante vs Plus+
1/20/2025 6:28am There is a pretty good correlation with weight, which could indicate a suppleness of the casing effect.

1/16/2025 2:22am Just a reminder that there are tons of Rohloff hubs out there and they are used by people for bikepacking, low-maintenance MTBs, etc.. It came to market in 1999 (longest standing product?). They are super-reliable and low maintenance. While they have a little more drag when riding compared to a super clean, high-end classic drivetrain, once you figure dirt and...

1/7/2025 12:45am I think one thing you ignore is the "cool" factor. As a person that does not want to buy another chinese/asian frame, what are your options in the DH space? Atherton, Nicolai, Foes, else? There are some smaller builders, but they are IMO not on the level of engineering and production as the others mentioned. I bet Atherton looked/are looking...
iRider Added a reply to The Mountain Bike Bearing Discussion
1/5/2025 12:13pm Pretty much what I wrote earlier. 👍 However, be careful with stainless steel bearings: they have a lower load capacity because stainless is softer than hardened bearing steel. If you fill your bearings with marine grease and maintain them regularly anyway, there are only disadvantages in going stainless.

1/4/2025 12:59pm The Enduro Max bearings have worse sealing than the 2RSH SKF bearings, so need more maintenance to keep them rust an contamination free. I get the idea of full complement bearings, but in my experience the worse sealing outweighs the benefits. Although well maintained, Enduro Max bearings in the lower pivot points of older Intense VPP bikes seem to have...
iRider Added a reply to The Mountain Bike Bearing Discussion
1/4/2025 3:01am I think the big question here is why your pivot bearings are dying. 1) bad design/dimensioning of suspension layout or bearings 2) bad/wrong bearings (too shitty quality, too soft material) 3) contamination of water and dirt ingress There are for sure a bunch of frames that suffer from factor 1). There is usually not much that you can do besides...

1/2/2025 6:38am I buy SKF 2RSH bearings, the "H" indicates a high friction seal (=tight). https://evolution.skf.com/added-versatility-as-use-of-rsh-heavy-duty-se… Much longer lifespan on pre-regreasable bearings on Intense VPP frames.
