So its pretty rad and awesome then? I have watched it but not in HD due to crappy internet and I would agree its a good bike flick but I'll reserve final judgment on it til I've seen it in 1080 on a big screen...

The Giant is underrated methinks. $300 seems expensive - I paid far less for mine. A year of use and aside from some stanchion wear, no issues. It works like clockwork.

I agree with Jeff. I don't think it will actually make a shred of difference. There are so many variables in a mtb dh race. People act as if a bigger wheel is a game changer like ground effect aerodynamics were in F1. They are not. The pic of Greg on the bike is the first time I have ever seen a bike look a bit too big for him :-)

4/5/2017 5:54am I am 1.88m and ride an XL 160mm travel frame with reach of 477mm. The CS length is 412mm - its a 26er of course. I can't say that my set up with 785mm bars and a 50mm stem ever feels unbalanced eg weight distribution wrong. The first thing I noticed after getting onto this bike after a far shorter...
I still ride a 2011 Enduro and love it. The XL has longer reach than this bike at 477 and with the carbon front its also quite a bit lighter than this beast. i run a 160 Pike on it but wish i had more options to change out the rear shock for something that matches the Pike better. This thing looks like a good deal for the money however, except for that colour of course...

Really enjoying the Vital reviews this year. I take something away from each one and find I can use them to interpret my own bikes behaviour. Plus the dry, rocky trails are more like home than the loam we often see in bike reviews

I also agree on the tyres. My 2013 Reign came with the std Nobby Nics of the day. What utter rubbish they were.,didn't last a week. I think they put them on because they make they bike feel lighter in the shop. This Trance is impressively light but with decent 1kg tyres on it it will probably weigh nearly 1 kg more...

This is custom bike territory in terms of price - and all you get are Giant's own dropper ( I have one and its reliable but budget) and own brand carbon wheels. Its good to see Giant have largely sorted out their rear suspension. In the past the longer travel bikes like the 26er Reign suffered from too little progression and required the largest volume reducer available from Fox.

Yes and no. I don't get to ride many different forks but when I have upgraded, eg. from QR to 15mm and then 32mm stanchions to 35mm, the difference was remarkable and easy to spot. That said, its all down to feel and what you are used to. Some days my Pike feels too stiff, the next day its perfect. Maybe it was cooler on day 2? Maybe my mood was better? Either way, suspension forks in this category have all become so good, its become harder to differentiate them. In my case the Pike is a price vs performance...

All the good AM /DH tyres are available in 26. Just look at Schwalbe for example. As far as rims go - Stans is a great option and Hope has just released a new wheelset for enduro in all three sizes. So there goes the theory that no new stuff comes out in 26 anymore. That goes for the new Stan's flows too. As for new tread patterns - there is nothing revolutionary coming out in that area. Everything starts looking more and more like a Minion or Magic Mary...

Isn't this the whole reason DH pants and shorts were made bulky with extra layers of fabric in the first place? Isn't that the point of DH specific gear? To offer some extra protection and durability?

4/8/2016 2:15am Interesting comments from Peaty. Much of the impetus for the UCI point rules came from current WC teams and athletes pushing to make the WC's more exclusive to top-tier riders only. Seems those feelings change a bit when confronted with the reality of how difficult it is to gain points when you don't already have them (especially early in the season).
