Glacial Pace Added a reply to FOX Podium Inverted MTB Fork - Questions, Answers, Reviews
6/26/2025 10:06pm It would be very odd if they didn't. Plus with two crowns you'd have thought that the weight penalty would be less to give you the required stiffness (over another DC downhill fork I mean)

Glacial Pace Added a reply to Nerding out on Brakes shall we? Not another tech deraliment
6/25/2025 1:57pm New Hope brakes are going to time it perfectly for dh season here. I'll be getting a set of the GR4 around release. Not run hopes since the Motos back in the day haha.

6/23/2025 11:16pm Just incase anyone was interested, the samox alloy dh cranks are a few months away. I really don't know why you'd go for carbon ones here, 2.5x the price, alloy ones are going to deal with rock strikes way better and with the current trend of hanging weight off your BB why not just buy heavier cranks?

6/23/2025 2:21am Cool, I've never even heard of them. No NZ distribution but I could always just buy internationally. Dub axle and 3 bolt chainring fitting is nice for compatibility.
Glacial Pace Added a reply to The flex stay discussion thread
6/21/2025 6:20pm I think before you point the finger at the flex stay you would be to ride the two bikes with identical wheels/tyres/pressure/cranks/handlebar etc, if you isolated the rear end as the only change and it still felt chattery then it's quite possible that in designing the flex stay rear end specialised had introduced some unwanted flex that does manifest in...

6/21/2025 4:53pm Literally the entire bike will flex when you put load on it. Stress and strain go hand in hand. It’s just a question of how much and that entirely comes down to how you design the frame. You could make something that has no flex stays or suspension and is an absolute noodle very easily.

Glacial Pace Added a reply to The flex stay discussion thread
6/21/2025 4:40pm The flex stay will offer an extremely small amount of undamped spring I think, but so does the front triangle, and the rear triangle of bikes that don't have flex stays, it's just so small that is not really something that you would generally say would introduce significant changes to the feeling of the suspension. I think what is happening...

6/21/2025 3:40pm Second year for most of the fast juniors. I think Jonty is the fastest of the first year juniors.

6/21/2025 2:35am Elite broadcast just started, at least it did on Staylive, but I'm gonna have to watch 30 mins minimum of bullshit chat and Josh getting really excited about something not worth getting that excited about instead of watching the juniors. Was hoping to watch juniors then go straight into elites.

6/21/2025 2:22am It seemed to be locked to 360p when it was happening as well. Not exactly a professional production.

6/20/2025 2:38pm I read your implication as the fact that you found shorter cranks harder (i.e., more force to pedal) and thus were considering changing your chainring due primarily to that. I was just pointing out that with minimal cadence change, your force output is equivalent across crank sizes. Many people do not know the relationships between cadence, torque, and power. You might be very happy with a chainring swap for any number of other highly valid reasons, but if you can spin freely on your climbs, crank length probably isn’t the driving factor (crank length discussion thread)

6/20/2025 3:22am Yeah, on an ebike I think I'd be going 155 or even shorter, haven't succumbed to the dark side yet though haha.

6/19/2025 10:46pm I fully understand how power is generated, i was just asking what size chainrings people were running with smaller cranks and said I was using 30/52 and was finding it to be on the limit. But we do have some sizable, quite steep climbs here.

6/19/2025 7:53pm How many options are even out there for cranks under 165? Hope make them in normal MTB or 83mm. New SRAM cranks from the mechanical transmission group sets are available is 160 and 155, but not in dh width
