8/13/2023 8:40am Stoked to see different thoughts, figured I'd weigh in with my own, mostly focusing on components/tech as geometry is still such a rider-specific thing, and I don't believe you can be prescriptive about it, hence backing up a lot of input on this thread about custom bikes/geo for specific riders. I'm all in! Brakes I truly believe brakes are as good as they'd ever need to be. Models in particular to mention would be Hayes Dominion, DH-R Evo and the trusty Code RSC. Put simply these brakes offer stupid reliability (Possible to ride an entire season or more of heavy...

8/13/2023 8:32am Brakes were a done deal more then a decade ago, Shimano clan knows this fact. Scott Gambler was better a decade ago. Coils are better. I don't think we're done but certain parts are just companies trying to overtake one another, while fighting dirrty.

8/13/2023 8:01am I can drive my car 100k miles without servicing it's suspension once, I'd say bikes still have plenty of room for improvement. Not apples to apples I know, but still.

8/13/2023 8:01am I'd say that there are places for improvement, but we're pretty close. Tire/rim interface, puncture resistance, sealant are probably the next "major" thing we'll see improved.

8/13/2023 7:50am Me gusta. Everything beside the cranks is a mix of "you have no idea" & "memberberrypig" and I love it. Keep on rolling.

8/13/2023 7:37am Most people way over value there bikes. They think if I could just flip this I can get the next one for just $500. I always point to cars for paying for upgrades on performance. No pays $5k extra over book for a $6500 supercharger kit, why is your 3 year old bike worth 10% under msrp because you have an EXT shock and crankbrothers wheels? Some people go new big brand and just never look back, not wanting to fuss with many riders mechanical abilities or cobbled together piles of anodized parts. I've been looking at the used market...

8/13/2023 7:32am I have never said the old Domain was good, it just outlived several much more expensive forks in the last decade. You think that quality is hype, air and price and I think it's inovation, longevity and coils. Once you break a frame that costs as your yearly income in 2 months and some Pivot, Scott whoever won't replace it, you get fierce.

8/9/2023 5:40pm There's no way you will ride this bike in 27. If you was to get a bike to love for years you wouldn't get this one. And honestly how many brands beside Nikolai are making such bikes? The lasting part wasn't about the parts breakin, but modern human phylosophy, style and originality. It's all about the hype.

8/9/2023 5:30pm I don't have the same exp. My 2012 Domain outlived several if not all mine and friends forks for example. Companies seem to follow each other like sects. Frames getting thinner, electrics, cnc and many other "bad craftmanship" strategies just to boost performance. And we all know what that means. You only get 2/3. And the prices... I get it most people are not all rounders, they pick they poison and roll with it, but if I get a premium bike I'd have to abandon several other loves. Btw carbon is plastic for me. I hate it. I will never...

8/9/2023 9:58am Short: you will never sell your Chromag/Nikolai as fast & as valubale as a Trek/Special. This isn't just in MBT world it is everywhere nowadays. People mostly don't value the valuable, they don't cherish crafmanship. All they do is allowing the screen to form their opinions while manipulating the ego. Ignorance k.o.'d the arrogance, live with it.

8/9/2023 9:53am One thing that might be skewing the data is demographics and age. I'm a college student, and I primarily ride gravity oriented bikes, just like almost everyone I know my age. So when TPC offered $500 for my bike that I sold the next week on Marketplace for $1300, there's no way I'm taking that deal. That's a large portion of my income each year, and the difference in price is a whole new Zeb. Similarly, when I buy a bike, I usually go towards Pinkbike or Marketplace because the deals are that much better, and if there are any...

8/9/2023 9:50am Everyone with some exp in mtb would guess: Special, Trek and then probably Santa Cruz. Why? Because: Spec is the company most people that don't love bikes like we do but has money to waste gets them. They are materialist consumers (otherwise they wouldn't spend 40% of life working) and they need to compescate in life. Trek is for the people that have some love but not enough knowledge and their budget is limited. They don't customize nor they are willing to fanaticly search. No need for Holly Grail but no money for the top Session. Cannon is not top...

8/8/2023 1:34pm It's actually pretty smart. If you have a really big air volume and teeny tiny piston head, you're going to have a pretty constant rate of change all the way from initial stroke through bottom out. That helps you get rid of (or at least minimize) the weird s-bend air spring curve. As a bonus, a tiny piston with tiny seals has less seal drag versus a big one. Makes me wonder if we're gonna see a new Zeb air spring in the near future.
