IMO dropping AS off deep into the travel like Yeti does, or the majority of horst link bikes do, is pointless. You get pedal kickback when the rate that your suspension is compressing exceeds the pedal kickback rate. And if your suspension is compressing quickly enough at the very bottom of your suspension stroke to engage your freehub at that...

I would love that reverse arch 32 for my gravel bike. It keeps the mud/dust/rocks off the stanchions far more effectively than a standard fork.

AgrAde Added a reply to Do You Measure Fork Sag?

Yeah, but both are only useful for a bounce around in your driveway before you further tweak it... in your driveway. Let alone finer adjustments once you've ridden on trail. Both are nonsense to use as gospel, which is what a lot of riders consider sag to be.

I'll never forget his review of a "Status 160" that was actually a 140mm bike. He made all sorts of comments like how it felt harsh compared to other bikes with 160mm travel...

AgrAde Added a reply to Do You Measure Fork Sag?

Using sag as a defining characteristic of your suspension is just absolute nonsense as far as I'm concerned. How your bike responds to both terrain and your inputs is what ultimately matters, and it depends SO MUCH on how your air spring behaves, and how your damper behaves, and how your spring and your damper are interacting, and where you...

Yeah, I prefer high AR bikes (100+ %) and consider any issues with choppiness and harsh suspension under braking to be a damping setup issue more than a kinematics issue. The benefit of a rear end that squats/calms itself/slackens the bike under braking is pretty noticeable imo. And I've only noticed high AR ever feel bad when the bike had...

Horst link bikes generally have low anti-rise because the virtual pivot point is usually quite far forward. But raising the pivot means adding anti-rise. I expect that the AR on a mid-pivot horst link bike is still lower in general than a single pivot/VPP/DW bike where the main pivot, real or virtual, is near the top of the chainring through...

AgrAde Added a comment about video Matching Stem Length with Fork Offset

Wow, that's absolute nonsense. Throw it on the large pile of snake oil and bad science that we have in this sport. The only thing that matters is where the grips are relative to the steering axis (grip offset). Where the bars and the stem clamp together is irrelevant. So many people swear by a particular stem length even when comparing vastly different bars, and the bars usually make a larger difference than the stem. Especially riser bars which change the grip offset a truckload depending on what angle they're rolled to. Even bars with the same sweep angle can...

The guy was a wanker for sure but wow it's not hard to take a step back and simply refuse to engage with a guy like that. Just provide him warranty service, no more no less... Rather than being a twit about it and then rescinding the offer. Using an open truss design like that for a crank is ridiculously...

AgrAde Added a comment about press release SPANK Launches Limited Edition Gold Pedals and Stem Combo

Definitely a mistake showing that pedal some water. It'll need a full rebuild now. Worst pedals I've ever owned. Completely seized after their first ride in the mud. Full rebuild with new axles, bearings, seals.... Completely seized after their first ride in the mud after the rebuild.

Why are you complaining about how it's hard to use full travel when it doesn't sound like you tried the fork with less than 2 volume spacers in it? You know what volume spacers are for right?

If you want to know how one of these bikes descends, take off your chain, derailleur, cassette, and then enjoy the silence and added grip you get from removing all that unsprung weight.

AgrAde Added a comment about bike check Specialized Pitch Pro EVO

5/24/2022 8:54pm
I love these things. They were actually super long reach for the time, about as long as the "forward geometry" mondrakers that came out like 4 years after these. One of the few bikes I'd happily ride from back then.

AgrAde Added a comment about press release Alchemy Sine Suspension: It’s the Sine of the Times

4/2/2022 8:59pm
The Arktos is so linear that the whole sine thing is pointless. According to linkagedesign, the "progressive" part of the leverage curve for the 2018 Arktos is a grand total of ~3% progressive.
