Tell that to their stock price, revenue, profitability, and declining margins. 🤣 Shimano is being eaten alive from above and below. Cues and road are like the only bright spots they have left.

The mass market also doesn't care about Cues. Walmart bikes (ozark trail) come with ltwoo and microshift. Specialized and trek offer cues on a select few bikes... where it competes with... ltwoo and microshift in the range. They are maaaaaaybe moving enough cues stuff to offset revenue  weaknesses in other segments.  In a quest to make half as much money as before? Again, see their financials. It's bad. The decline is real, and very clear.  They are showing that there's not enough cues sales in the world to make up for the loss of those juicy, juicy premium segment (XTR etc) dollars.

Deore and 105 is fancy shiny shit; they're even offered with Di2... It's clearly part of the premium segment, developed, and designed to exist with the rest of the premium range like XTR and Dura-Ace. Shared technology, compatibility, etc.  It's just less fancy and shiny than what sram has, especially on the mountain side. Again, because they have spent a decade bringing too little too late, over and over.

My point was that their strategy continues to not make sense, including with this Saint launch. This is clearly playing out in the market (and their financials).  If you think the premium segment doesn't matter, and is just some silly little side quest because it's not "mass market" then explain SRAM. And then explain why sram is seeing significant revenue growth over that period while shimano is, let's be very generous and say, flat.

I know I'll get flamed for this by shimano fanboys, but if shimano keeps this up they will turn into campagnolo in like 10 years. Oh wait, I almost forgot, they'll still have fishing reels! 🤣

maybe start looking into the real cycling market (europe) instead of your narrow american centric view. 80% of my show room is cues

I've got a few things that come to mind scrolling these pics, and I'm curious what others think -

  • Is Shimano off the back because they aren't introducing wireless/electronic Saint when SRAM just launched XX DH AXS?  I get that some peeps don't like electronics, but XX DH is the obvious comparison to make, and it seems like Shimano is setting themselves up to be at a disadvantage when you consider ease of setup, clean cockpit look.
  • No clutch. Di2 XT/XTR have racked up a reputation for being loud and dropping chains at the chainring since they seem to cause some extra chain flailing. The solution has been OChain's (ironic) and/or chain guides, which feels like a step back when we've been running no guides with Transmission for a few years now. Personally, I don't really care how smooth/fast/crips a DH drivetrain shifts, I just don't want my bike sounding like a toolbox getting chucked down the hill or my chain dropping.
  • I'll say it, the gold levers look tacky. Do we think the brakes are production colors, or just proto to draw some attention?
  • Do we think the new brakes will be as or more powerful than other brakes out there? I'm also not buying that the stamped 220mm rotors work that well based on some riders running 3rd party rotors this seasons (not necessarily with the new brakes, but with XTRs or a mixed lever/caliper setup).

My 2c on some of your comments above @Jason_Schroeder. Going wireless would be a losing battle. Why compete against SRAM in what they do best. Stay with cable shifting, keep the pricing much much lower than XX DH and keep the purists happy all at once. As for the spring, it's said to be insanely tight on these new rear mechs, like.. chop your finger off tight.

You know damn well that the saint groupset won't be cheap... Shimano had Hone and Zee groupsets before for more "entry-level" downhill/freeride/OEM bikes and all those products are now defunct...

It looks like Spring 2027 for release based on embargo'd bikes release dates I've seen

I guarantee you it won't be a $700 rear derailleur, nowhere close to that.

MSRP on 12spd mechanical XTR is $330.  current saint (10spd) MSRP is $215.  I'd presume it'd be somewhere in between, probably closer to xtr pricing if i had to guess
