spring rate - YT tues

Edited Date/Time 6/23/2025 12:02pm

Hallo, i will install a new rockshox vivid r2c coil shock on my YT tues. 267X89 (10.5x3.5). What spring rate do you suggest? I am about 80-82kg race ready (175-180lbs).

Tftuned calculator suggests a 265 spring rate, which seems really low, even for a 267x89 shock.

The suspension lab indicates a 330.

Take those calculators with a big grain of salt, it's a rough guide at best.

Email YT customer support if it exist, ask their opinion. Consider that advise your starting point and accept the fact you may need to buy 2-3 springs before settling on a rate. Sprindex could be your friend here.

Thanks guys! The tues is the first changed frame in 2012. Yt told me that they don't have don't have specific baseline recommendations for bikes from that era... I think i'll go for a 325, hope it's not that stiff.

I ran a 300lb spring on my 2015 at 190lbs bodyweight without kit. Also, the longer shaft shock has a higher shaft speed (lower leverage rate) deep in the travel which creates higher than normal damping, so don't over spring

My daughter and I both have MK3 Tues that use the same shock.  I am 250lb and use a 400lb or 450lb spring on the bike compared to the 600lb to 650lb spring on my trail bike with a 205x65 shock.  You definitely have to run a lower spring rate than normal with that giant stroke shock.

Do you have the vivid r2c? I just don't want to have a wallowy soft feel, since the 267x89 vivid r2c is configured as low compression tune and also it hasn't any hsc damping. Do you reckon i would be ok with a 300 or should i get a 275? (supple ride with support and not harsh)

PS. the RS-VIVC-R2C-B3  has any differences with that of previous generations?

I've had 30% sag with full gear and a 250 lbs spring on my RS Kage Coil shock. I'm 180 lbs geared. I've ordered a 275 lbs and going to buy a 300 later just for future proofing. These spring sizes are going to disappear.

Ive bought a Vivid R2C B3 too so going to service it and put it on my bike and leave the Kage on the shelf if anything goes wrong. (This size shock is out of production now so everyone who has yt should hold onto if they plan to kepp their bike for long periods of time)

How did yours end up doing and could you do a feedback if you got both spring rates you mentioned?
