What frame brands are nicest to bearings? Should bearings and service be a consideration when buying a bike?

I use X-Acto knife/blade with a fine point, it's thinner than awls and you can pop the seal without bending it if you are careful.

I also usually use the tip of a razor blade. Or a smaller/thinner pick than the Park Tool ones.

I can get under the seal with a razor blade but I never feel like I can generate enough leverage to get it to pop off. Feels like the blade is going to break. Guess I need to just push it harder?

I use the good old stanley knife...you can slide it along the edge and it will work its way behind the edge of the seal then should be easy to lever out. You could also take an old screwdriver and grind it thinner, maybe even angle the end if you can't access the bearing easily. But it should slide around the lip of the seal without doing any damage.

Then again its not something I do a ton of....Enduro bearings comes well filled with grease chosen for the application so they don't seem to need it. Maybe some factory TPX or BOLU bearings need more help but it's not something I come across too often these days

Are you prying at the seal on the inner or outer ring contact point?

When it comes to mine (and my wife's) bike, I am trying to protect the main bearings like this:

Alan Tani used to sell grease packers that make it possible to push marine-grade grease through seals without opening them. In my experience, it doesn't seem to make much of a difference in my case

I've been very happy with the bearings on my Propain Hugene 2.

All bearings are well protected and still running smoothly years later.

The bearings in my Giant Trance X were toast in less than a year in the same conditions.

@TEAMROBOT I hear you on the blade, many years ago I snapped the tip off a Stanley and that was the end of that bearing.

Dental picks work quite well, and you can also get shaping tools for pottery / ceramic art that are stainless and sturdy.  My wife’s set might be missing one. I have absolutely no idea where it could be.
